Trump has been withholding phone calls with foreign leaders that contain politically damaging phone calls on a password protected national security server.

The appendix said, According to white house officials that I spoke with, this was not the first time under the administration a presidential transcript was placed into this code word level system solely for the purpose of protecting politically sensitive rather than in national security-sensitive information.
Trump is abusing the intelligence classification system to cover up his crimes and secrets. None of this should be a surprise, but it is a flagrant abuse of power, and the whistleblower report has done a bigger service to the country than anyone first realized.
It appears to have laid out a roadmap to Trumps biggest potential crimes in office.
There are more damaging readouts of Trump phone calls hidden on a password protected national security server.

(34,055 posts)It is the server designated to hold top secret information.
It is being misused by Trump to bury damaging information in places that it would be hard to find. But the server itself is not secret.

(16,926 posts)I understood the server is equipment already in use, but not for what trump is putting on it. But the media needs to slow down and use proper description, or they will lose credibility. I'd rather they slow down their reporting and make sure they get it right.

(25,237 posts)This is shades of Nixon's Watergate tapes.
The question to ask here is: How did we get access to Nixon's Watergate tapes?
And we have to use the same methods of how we got access to those tapes to get access to any other Trump telephone calls that have been secreted away.

(9,161 posts)1. Alexander Butterfield testified to their existence before the Senate Watergate Committee in July 1973
2. Special Counsel Archibald Cox asked Federal District Judge John Sirica to subpoena 9 of the tapes relevant to John
Deans' testimony.
3. Nixon claimed executive privilege, but in October 1973, offered the Stennis Compromise, whereby elderly Senator John
Stennis would review and summarize the tapes. Cox refused and Nixon had him fired in the Saturday Night Massacre.
4. Leon Jaworski was named the new Special Counsel.
5. In April 1974 the House Judiciary Committee subpoened 42 tapes. Again Nixon claimed executive privilege, but released
redacted transcripts.
6. Jaworski asked for subpoenas of 64 tapes to use in prosecutions of Nixon associates. Nixon refused, and the case was
subsequently appealed all the way to the Supreme Court which ruled 8-0 against Nixon in July 1974.

(32,610 posts)... but as I recall it, the Saturday Night Massacre was a much bigger event than simply firing Archibald Cox.
Nixon wanted the Special Counsel fired, and he ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire him. Richardson refused to fire Cox, and resigned in protest. Then Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus also refused to fire Cox, and he also resigned in protest. Next up was the Solicitor General Robert Bork who was 3rd in line and became the Acting Attorney General, and he carried out Nixon's order to fire Cox. This all happened on the same day - Saturday, October 20, 1973 - which became known as the Saturday Night Massacre.
An interesting side note, something I didn't know before, was that Robert Bork had planned to also resign after carrying out Nixon's order, but Eliot Richardson persuaded Bork to stay in office. Had Bork resigned Nixon would have had the opportunity to appoint a Bill Barr-type toady as AG in his place, and it would have totally derailed the impeachment proceedings.

(9,161 posts)The resignations leading up to it -- the massacre if you will -- were really what told the nation that this was wrong, and that Nixon was corrupt.

(58,785 posts)of interference in 2016 was hidden by Hillary somewhere in Ukraine, along with her 30,000 emails. Wonder if one of those phone calls will be asking Putin to come whisk his server to safety in St. Petersburg. This is a man who clearly visualizes cyber as something that can be hidden in a safe.

(58,785 posts)a serious problem. I'm having trouble understanding what that would be like, but take away some major space fillers like the projections that sub for reality on the right and his skull might just implode.

He's just mingling in information he wants to hide in a place that is harder for people to access.

(32,610 posts)... and the White House knew about it almost immediately. We can probably thank Bill Barr for that one. So they've had almost 2 full months to clean their dirty shit out of that server. Hopefully more whistleblowers will come forward, but let's face it - anybody with integrity has already left White House employment.

(1,522 posts)I think that there is probably a pattern of similar behavior.
The Qatar incident seems a lot like this mob type shakedown. I would not be surprised if there are others.
http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/03/weeks-before-blockade-qatar-denied-money-to-kushners-firm.html
The government of Qatar, however, suspects otherwise. As NBC News reports:
Qatari government officials visiting the U.S. in late January and early February considered turning over to Mueller what they believe is evidence of efforts by their countrys Persian Gulf neighbors in coordination with Kushner to hurt their country, four people familiar with the matter said. The Qatari officials decided against cooperating with Mueller for now out of fear it would further strain the countrys relations with the White House, these people said.
Its worth noting that the project the Qatari foreign minister refused to finance wasnt just one more item in the Kushner familys portfolio; it was Jareds baby his misbegotten, sickly, drowning baby.
I can see the old news stories being dug up for years to come of just how corrupt our WH is right now.

(14,489 posts)High-value data is typically stored with multiple redundant copies (Redundant Array, or RAID server), often in multiple locations for best insurance. Therefore, no one can just go somewhere and "grab" the server.
Another point is the evil cleverness of this move by tRump's IT people: if his data is stored on the same disks as high-security info from other agencies such as the military, that will make it much harder to gain access by Congress because the other data owners don't want their data exposed to investigators, therefore creating an excuse for not allowing an analysis.
Sort of like a thief hiding his loot in the basement of a police station.
