and Nixon: an attempt to use the government and other means to denigrate political opponents, and then a coverup to prevent anyone from learning what happened. Barr is Trump's Attorney General equivalent of Mitchell. The difference is that Nixon and his men were far more intelligent. Trump doesn't even understand fully how deeply he has messed up.

(128,859 posts)involved use of Russian crackers (black hat hackers) to steal stuff from the DNC just like "Watergate" (the hotel) was where DNC files were stolen, and that is the closer analogy.
This Ukraine thing goes beyond even what Nixon did (i.e., foreign involvement in elections.... although as I understand it historically, the "opening" of Chinese relations was basically the result of a U.S. shakedown )... and Nixon did have an enemies list.
This current administration has too many moving criminal parts to even narrow to a single one.

(9,116 posts)But anything, really. I just don't like naming every scandal vis a vis Watergate. A hundred years from now people are going to think Nixon was impeached over water.
