getting way ahead of things, but... who is this generation's gerald ford?

let's imagine that, one way or another, the office of the vice-president is vacant.

pence resigned, or was impeached and removed.
or donnie resigned, or was impeached and removed and pence became president.

whatever scenario, the vice-presidency is vacant.

who them becomes the new vice-president? the president nominates someone, but *both* houses of congress have to approve them by majority vote. ford was bland enough and respected enough by both parties to win the nod in 1973.

but *who* would be acceptable to both sides???

and would it matter if it was donnie or pence doing the appointing?

i rather think it has to be a back-bencher type. not someone who has really been in the limelight.

They are all pretty much self-serving, mendacious misanthropes.

2. I can't imagine why Pence would be gone before Trump.

If they're both gone, Pelosi is POTUS and I doubt she'll be pardoning anyone. LOL. Should Pence decide to resign, Trump could appoint any of his bootlickers who would probably pardon him if they ascended to the presidency. That's frightening, although they can't pardon state charges and that could put Don away for many, many moons.

6. in no scenario are they gone at the same time.

zero republicans will ever cooperate in anything that turns the white house over to a democrat, so unless they both die at the same time, or one dies while the other's post is vacant, then pelosi is not becoming president. they'll appoint a replacement to prevent that.

but if pence does go first for whatever reason, donnie can't just appoint anyone he wants to replace pence. his nominee needs majority approval from both houses, and i can't see democrats letting him appoint nunes or some other highly partisan today.

4. Kasich?

He repudiated Trump and refused to be his running mate. Most of the others, including Romney, have gladly defended Trump.

Not that I want Kasich to be president.

7. Kasich was disappointingly wishy washy on the Ukraine thing yesterday on MSNBC.

He refused to say it would be an impeachable offense. Even the Never Trumpers are caving.

they wouldn't want to hand the presidency to someone like that.

they'd want someone bland. like someone with the reputation and respect colin powell had before he proved what a rotten person he was after all.

He's a wolf in sheep's clothing. Dems in Congress know he's a wolf, however, so he'd be unlikely to pass muster.

9. Whoever is president then would nominate a VP

and the Congress would have to approve.

Mitt Romney probably would jump at it.

Thing is, as Ford found out, it's a short-term ticket to political oblivion.

11. right. the question is, who would then nominate who could get enough democratic votes in the house?

virtually all the major republican names are toxic and completely unacceptable.

Trump will appoint John Roberts. That way there won't be anyone to preside over the trial until Trump appoints a favorable replacement.

to have a Jerry Ford figure who is trusted, if not actually liked by both political parties. There would be stalemate, especially with an election on the near horizon. The GOP would pick a presidential nominee and a VP nominee, and would just roll the dice with them. They don't want another Ford, that didn't work out well for them the last time.

Is who will be this generation's Alexander Butterfield. It was him that broke Watergate wide open with his disclosure of tapes.

Information that Trump is trying to hide exists somewhere in media. There is at least one person other than Trump that knows where it is at.

The whistleblower has been sort of deep throat. Butterfield's equivalent will be the person that brings this crooked presidency down.
