The NYT is reckless here. WTF were they thinking? They published the article after the president threatened the wb.

(22,035 posts)Journalists have many more attributes than you've stated. When they learn information, their job is to inform the public without prejudice.
Consider the alternatives and where would you draw a line?
Incidentally, your comment sounds like something Trump would say.
Please reconsider your view of the free press and the First Amendment.

(15,522 posts)The recent outing of the intelligence agent who worked extremely closely with Putin and the - very near - outing of this whistleblower are extremely concerning to me.
Journalists have to make judgement calls - it is not as simple as reporting all information without prejudice.
Reputable journalists did not report identifying information about the intelligence agent - even after the craptastic outlets had reported the information. The agent deserves safety and so does his family. Ditto for the whistleblower.
I am not in favor of external control of what journalists report - I want them to reconsider their current standards.

Not to mention if he figures it out, he will suing them on some bee ess, divine right of Kings scam.

At this point, I am leaning toward our President being impeached and removed from office due to the overpowering influence of the MSM and sheer hatred of our President. If facts mattered I would say zero chance, but they don't matter, not one bit, and with lefties all over the government ready and willing to leak confidential information our President cannot function as he needs to. Full Scale political war starts the moment he is removed. We haven't seen anything compared to the likes of what is coming ...

Agree.... it is just another attempt to attack the president in the ongoing coup. 2A mentions something about a militia and it probably scares the crap out of democrats/socialists.

Where ya' been? All this really says is the the Times has good reporters and good sources. Just slightly ahead of the competition .. but you can be assured the rest of the pack will get there!

(11,301 posts)I think you should reconsider. My opinion, but .. putting organizations like the Times in the opposite camp .. leaves a diminishingly small sliver of territory left on this side. Don't always like what they run .. but I still prefer to ascribe them honest motives. I would distinguish that from outlets that I DO NOT think aspire to honest journalism. (and I think we should be careful about attacking the press, lest we play into the hands of the authoritarian types?)
ArcticFox
(1,249 posts)I'm not putting the NYT in one camp or the other. The NYT has control over that. Our wishing or believing that our territory were larger doesn't make it so.
All I'm saying is: keep your guard up. Reporting that seems to be fair, and even truly fair reporting, can often provide cover for pushing right wing ideas.

Yes, I know they have done much that is good. But this needs to be stopped. FFS Trump would have their own reporters murdered if he could get away with it, and as we know, he's all but come out and ordered his knuckle-dragging minions to do just that. Enough!

(32,699 posts)That's such an important point raised: The NYT could be completely wrong in their assessment of the whistle blower's position and background. This could lead to the harassment or death of an unrelated person who fits the description given by the Times.
Hell, who was their source anyway? The same anonymous White House stooges who described the Ukraine call as not containing a quid pro quo?
