With the presidential election coming next year,,,

and AnusMouth's impeachment a near-certainty--does anyone else think that the GOP Senators might vote to convict tRump, in order to move Pence to the top of the ticket for 2020? Would they view tRump as so toxic to voters that they would toss him to the wolves in order to have a better shot at retaining the White House (and at the same time, to save their own hides and retain their Senate majority)? This notion has been bouncing around my head the last day or so, and I wonder what other DUers think.

They'll get him to resign like Nixon, or at least drop out of 2020 election. Hoyt Sep 2019 #4

Until these senators start to see some cracks in that I think they stay the course. I’m not saying what you wrote is not possible, just that I don’t think we’re anywhere near that point.

He runs the risk of prosecution for a sh*t-load of crimes if he resigns, I think. If they try to force him to drop out, he'll fight tooth and nail to stay in, again because he'd be prosecuted at term end, as well. No, he wants/needs to get re-elected. Maybe the RNC could force him off/refuse to re-nominate him; really, the quickest and maybe easiest way to do that is to convict him in the Senate, which, according to the Constitution, would disqualify him from holding federal office. That's where my thinking is, anyway, FWIW.
