(16,162 posts)Its a reckless act aimed at getting clickety clicks and revenue. Its irresponsible. But you knew that already.

(93,880 posts)If the Time could figure this out, so could the White House. Hes protected by the Whistlblower Law and hes not at risk of being rubbed out.

(16,162 posts)At carrying water for the GOP as was the case in the lead up to Iraq. And how can we forget their breathless but her emails!1! coverage in the fall of 2016?
Im reminded of the latter each and every day. Its a for profit news operation, not the fucking Avengers.

My post that you replied to is completely accurate. As is yours. But the post I was replying to is, for the most part, carting your context.
A blending of my post and yours gets to the bigger picture.

(11,095 posts)this is solid reporting. If you didn't think this was going to come up ...
We already knew the whistleblower was part of intelligence .. previously reported .. and the rest is easily pieced together by examining the complaint .. which has been publicly released! This is plain old fashioned journalism. Some individuals here at DU have a real "thing" with the NYT.
LovingA2andMI
(7,006 posts)Is downright awful, especially for Journalists who equally except their sources be protected. The Whistleblower is a source.

(16,696 posts)The whistle-blower is going to be the most sought after person in the world. Just a couple of weeks ago, the media tracked down a spy who was living in Va. So far, the spy is still alive. I hope. The identity of the whistle blower is going to be revealed sooner or later. By the time of the revelation, maybe the whistle blower will be quite safe in a secure location.
ALso, I hope that everyone who has crossed thug traitor trump has secure protection, people who can't be bought off. Unless the trail of dead russians lead to trump's door, he hasn't resorted to hits yet. Not to say he won't, because no one is willing to stop his ridiculous tantrums and as this latest crime is exposed to light, who knows what he'll do. He's running out of people to blame, running out of fall guys to throw in front of the train.
People in CIA/FBI, and other security organizations who are loyal to the U.S.A. would I'm sure protect the whistle-blower to the best of their ability. If the henchmen surrounding trump are anything to go by, I should think the career security people are much better at what they do than trump's bottom-of-the-barrel hires.

(1,871 posts)If you're looking for a news source that's perfect all the time - just drop out because there's no such beast. The NYT does some
admirable reporting like the recent 1619 project (the project that gave Mitch the vapors). I'm sorry - but I have to question the motivation of internet personalities that think canceling their subscription is going to solve shit. I support the NYTimes and have a
goddamn paper copy thrown on my drive every . fucking . day. It's not perfect - but it's still the best horse in the glue factory.

(7,006 posts)And the thread lives on and People will continue to post about Outing a Whistleblower in a so-called Journalistic New Resource that would expect and demand a source identity be protected.
Yet, some will defend....whatever....

(7,006 posts)Guess they offended a lot of Dems and plenty of others. That will be an interesting NYT Stock Value Hit Tomorrow. Guess they should not have outed a Federal Whistleblower.
With that, have a lovely evening....

(16,162 posts)I mean Im sure they didnt mean to have 36 months of breathless, wall to wall coverage of but her emails!1 right up until Election Day.
And Im sure carrying water for W in the lead up to Iraq was a simple oversight.
Tell me, what is it exactly that they do right?

(9,878 posts)an excellent investigation of Daddy Trump and his financial dealings leading into the current Trump family dealing. Verrry interesting and informative. It didnt get a lot of comment, probably because it was longer than a tweet, but it was nevertheless a very good read.

(16,162 posts)But when purveyors of products I use with some frequency stop producing those products at the same level of quality I often find a new purveyor for that product. Similarly if said purveyor does something outrageous I reserve the right to terminate my business relationship with them.
Their decision to doxx the whistleblower was irresponsible. Some of us object to that, and are exercising our power to choose as consumers. Its the American way, after all.
MineralMan
(146,192 posts)I don't believe they announce the whistleblower's name. I don't know if they know the name.
Shortly, that person will appear before a couple of congressional committees. Soon, his name will be known. The fact that he was a CIA employee once assigned to the White House is important information. I'm sure he or she is a very senior analyst. That is also important information.
You can, of course, do as you wish and cancel your subscription. More effective is your open public protestation of the NYT's policy, though.
