I just saw a post about Stericycle and the OP was saying that whole thing was something that would freak out conservatives. No, it won't. They don't care.
I have been talking about this crap for weeks on Facebook and in person with tons of conservatives and NONE of the stuff that they tell you is what they care about, is REALLY what they care about.
Romney and Ryan both lied about Medicare and I can prove it? Don't care.
Romney is refusing to release taxes and could be hiding something? Don't care.
Romney's budget would require the economy to grow at 6.8% and that ain't gonna happen? Don't care.
Dick Cheney said deficits don't matter and Bush doubled the national debt, so why are you excited about this shit now? Don't care.
Romney used to be for abortion? Don't care.
Obama has a grade of F from the Brady gun control group? Don't care.
They just don't care about any of it. They want Obama gone, they do not like liberals, it does not matter how many facts you produce. You can prove without a shadow of a doubt that whatever ignorant-as-shit thing they are saying is as ignorant as shit....and they will look you right in the face, admit you are right and STILL say that they don't care, they are voting against Obama.
So...why is that? Why do people vote against all acknowledged common sense and their own interests for someone whom they will admit is a liar?
What the fuck IS that?

(16,685 posts)that's something it's about time the Democratic Party learned...and I believe they ARE learning it finally. Voting is an emotional gut check thing and you have to find ways to present your issues in those terms.

(9,854 posts)Like I just said upthread, I just had somebody on FB say to me, "You're right. I don't care."
And I am telling you, if it is racism after all, that scares the shit out of me. Cause you just cannot reason with that shit. All through '08 I denied that most of the opposition to Obama was race based. But for the life of me, that is all I can figure it can be at this point. There is NOTHING attractive about Romney. I have even asked people "Name three reasons you LIKE Mitt Romney." EVERY ONE OF THEM IGNORED ME. They cannot come up with THREE reasons to like this guy, but are STILL going to vote for him.
God, it is enough to drive me insane.

(19,458 posts)etc., I see things on "Christian's" facebook pages that would break your heart if you care for the President and his family. It's personal. it's very very personal. The attacks I see daily are not about policies, they're about the President himself, and the majority are because he is an "other" not like them. The GOP, starting with Palin, did a great job in dehumanizing the President/Candidate early on. It's clearly racism, even if the people doing it don't know it. They attacked Al Gore, but this is much more personal.

(13,259 posts)very well-written, with a lot of very thoughtful comments, on the subject of a person trying to understand why a beloved brother has become a rabid right-winger.
I'm really impressed with the level of compassion and thought that has gone into the diary and the comments. No simple answer, but worth reading.
