4. Only the intel will remain working (although staff of the other 5 committees presumably will)

Rep Jeffries (Judiciary) was just on saying so and stressing the need for other members to (essentially) be in their districts to "drum up support."

The only thing they don't do is have hearings. And hearings are a small part of what they do.

will go home to their districts and his description was specific--their priority is to interact with their constituents to explain and build support.

I believe he has a point and yes, committee staff can be very productive behind the scenes. But the optics of going home so soon after announcing impeachment inquiries officially and so soon after their last break ae not exactly favorable.

9. I'm less concerned about the optics and more concerned about the work getting done

Members are very well aware of the optics - probably more so than any of us are. And they've decided it's more important for them to spend some time in the district with their constituents than being in Washington in order to make it look like they're working harder than they already are.

And as I've said elsewhere, their being in Washington means that much less work gets done because it's very difficult for staffers to focus on the kind of grunt work they need to do on impeachment if they're occupied with staffing their Members when the House is in session.

I can tell you from experience that we could probably run a small city on the wind produced by the sighs of relief breathed by Congressional staffers watching their Members' tail lights disappear into the distance as they head to the airport after the last vote of the week... House and Senate sessions are absolute madness.

They actually get MORE work done because there aren't nearly as many distractions.
