Im of the mindset, if Trump gets to the 2020 election, he gets a second term.
I think this is the watershed moment, right now, the next few days are crucial,
this is the moment that history will look back on.
Its now or never.

(12,367 posts)The only way this hurts trump, is if it all goes down quickly, a year or two investigating it, wont hurt trump.
It shouldnt take that long either.
It needs to be a knock out blow.
If Trump is still around in 2020, that is bad for the dems, bad for America and bad for the world.
No half measures.
Trump will only go down, if its quick.

(12,618 posts)And given that he was already underwater by double digits in many polls, this is only going to hurt him even more. Even if he does survive this, to say he has an uphill battle in 2020 is an understatement.
I am certain that if Bill Clinton hadn't been impeached, Gore would have won 2000 easily. Yes, I'm aware that he actually did win, but it would not have been close enough for them to steal if Clinton hadn't gone through impeachment. The same is likely to be true of Trump.

(12,367 posts)He will have so much in place to make sure he wins the election.
Simple as that.
If the investigation is still going on in 14 months times, nothing will come off it.
It needs to be a short sharp blow.

(12,367 posts)Its trumo, you dont think they're putting things in place.
Everything from, Oh they're no ballot papers left in the democratic district.
Opps some votes went missing.
The electronic machine broke down in this democratic district.
Little things and big things, Putin has had four years to work on his bots.
This investigation cant drag on, if they're going to act, they need to act.
Trump has to be gone by November 2020.

(12,618 posts)And I think that type of talk is paranoid horseshit. I'm not saying they're not going to try, or that they didn't pull shit the last time. But you place way too much faith in the power of the federal government if you think they can rig every local polling place all over the country. They can siphon a few votes here and there, and they can purge some voters here and there, but they can't overcome a massive lead in a blowout election. If they could, Obama would never have become president.
You can steal a close election and get away with it. You can't steal a landslide. And if things keep gong the way they are, that is exactly what 2020 will be. Polls were close the last time. They won't be this time.

(11,949 posts)But the revelations of the past week changed everything. Nancy saw that, did a 180 and pounced. He has admitted using his power and a 450 million dollar bill to Ukraine to bribe a head of state to help his campaign by manufacturing dirt on his most likely opponent.
That is still sinking in with Americans. It will not go over well.
The biggest irony? It seems the politicians in his administration were dead set against releasing the sanitized version of the call. But Burr won the day! And it is sinking him. Can call it fake news all you want, but they admitted it. Barr is a dirty scheming theocrat. Good at backroom skullduggery. But his loyalty swayed trump to listening to his political advice. Barr does not understand that realm.
And what kind of AG is even in that conversation? Well, we all know.

(3,599 posts)Any alternative relied on the Rethugs doing the right thing and upholding their constitutional duty, which we knew was never going to happen, no way, no how.
We're where we were destined to wind up. Now, the Dems will make their case for the American public, then impeach his criminal ass, and the Rethugs can show their cowardice. Then the people will decide. It was never going to be a slam dunk, but it had to be done, and now it's time to do it.
