Born To Run The Numbers on Trump's horrific abuse of power in the Ukraine, but urges Democrats to think carefully about exactly when to ratify articles of impeachment:

Excerpts: "There are smoking guns, and then there is the murderer who openly admits to having pumped a dozen slugs into the bloody, lifeless body lying at his feet, and then looks around at all his cronies, shrugs, and says, 'Hey, I didnt do nuttin wrong...'
"Taken in full, it means that Trumps DoJ, Department of State, Executive Branch, and just about anybody in Trumps toxic immediate proximity all knew that the President of the United States had committed an impeachable offense ...And only one lonely whistle-blower had the guts to do anything about it..."
"No, this was not the isolated rogue action of the terrified thug who happens to be President of the United States. It was the concerted effort of an army of morally bankrupt enablers, sycophants, and turn-a-blind-eye lackeys acting in coordinated stupidity, corrupt intent, and malevolent abuse of power. It took a village -- of village idiots, that is. And it raises that age old question: how many dim bulbs does it take to screw in a Ukrainian?
"...Republican Political Consultant Mike Murphy...made this startling assertion: 'I can tell you this... one Republican senator told me if it was a secret vote, 30 Republican senators would vote to impeach Trump.' If true if half-true -- this is the definitive statement about the the moral cowardice of the Republican Party. But Murphys meta-message was clear
if the evidence of brutal corruption in the Ukraine matter did not cause these Republicans to vote their conscience, nothing will...All of which must should be weighed into the mix as Nancy Pelosi evaluates her next steps."

(595 posts)Don't rush to impeach, drag out the process.

(775 posts)Nancy Pelosi seems to want to ratify a single article of impeachment before November.
I cannot understand her logic.
That allows Mitch McConnell to decide exactly when a Senate trial will take place that he already knows he will win.
This would allow Trump to crow once again that he has been exonerated, that he is innocent, and that he was the victim of yet another witch hunt.
Much better to let impeachment inquiry extend well into 2020 and drop articles of impeachment at a point that is too late for a senate trial before election day.
What is Nancy Pelosi thinking?

(775 posts)The title may have been glib but the subject is extremely serious.
I understand that the Democrats want to seize the moment and push as hard as they can while popular sentiment is forming.
Fine. Turn up the full heat on the "Impeachment Inquiry"... not just on the Ukraine, but use it to re-ignite momentum on other House investigations as well. Keep a steady parade of witnesses testifying on National television.
But unless they can count 20 Republican Senators who commit to voting to convict, it is wrong to ratify any article of impeachment. All that will do is hand control of the process over to McConnell... which will lead to "acquittal," interpreted by Trump as "exoneration," "vindication," and "proof" that Ukraine was another "deep state witch hunt."
