https://theconcourse.deadspin.com/this-guy-truly-has-no-idea-what-hes-talking-about-1838500602Trump cannot ever keep his story straight because he never fully knew what it was in the first place. He knows it is about him, and the things that keep happening to him, but beyond that he never knows, and will never know; he is conspiring and scheming constantly, but so ineffectually and in such a state of flummoxed confusion and utterly abject ignorance that the endgame is never anything but unclear. Trump is always trying to get over, to win and keep winning, but also he doesnt know what the rules are, or what the game even is, and also someoneits not important who, it would be unfair to point fingershas eaten the racecar, the thimble, all of the little plastic hotels, and a third of the cards in Community Chest. It can be difficult to prove that any of Trumps many howlingly overt acts of malfeasance are intentional because everything he doesfrom the first grasping moments to his last seething ones, all through his endless expanses of executive timefeels like and fundamentally is an accident.
When the White House released a redacted summary of a phone call that Trump had with Ukraines newly elected prime ministerthis, oddly, was part of a confusing attempt to short-circuit a scandal that began with the White Houses attempt to bury a whistleblowers complaint about Trumps attempt to cultivate foreign parties help in his 2020 campaignthe world got to see the master in action. The dialogue made clear what Trump was trying to do, which was leverage the possibility of aid money to get Ukraine to investigate a company that had put Joe Bidens son Hunter on its board, thereby creating the sort of opaque and open-ended scandal that Trump used to great effect against Hillary Clinton in 2016. It was the transparency of this maneuverwhich, in classic Trumpian fashion, amounted to making a common bit of implicit political scummery extremely explicit, and then using it to the pettiest of personal endsas much as the substance of it that seems finally to have inspired Democrats to come around on a shamefully belated impeachment inquiry.

Trumps ignorance isnt a defense, but it is again a decent explanation. Because he is constitutionally incapable of being less ignorantbecause his mind is gone and because he wont read or listen and cant effectively digest even the smoothest juche gruel that his television gives himhe winds up thinking things that literally no one else thinks. And because Trump is constitutionally incapable of changing his mind, on any topic, he gets stuck on stuff like this and then repeats it and repeats it and repeats it; the job of the cable channel he likes is to tell him hes right, so quite literally hears this stuff more and more. He doesnt express himself well enough to convince anyone else of whatever it is that he believesits seldom clear what hes even trying to argue beyond that everyone is being mean to him for no reason and actually someone else did what he didbut hes already convinced himself of it, which means that he will never be unconvinced.

The world, if not the planet, is being killed by the acts of The Dumbest Don. Children are still "misplaced" after having been ripped from families. Our water, air, and land are being poisoned for profit.
Save the pity for the billions who deserve it.

(4,341 posts)see someone making a fool of themselves, we cringe, its not normal, and it is a pitiful display. I have a feeling he pities the show and not the actor.

(296 posts)his whole life. Scheming, conning, cheating and lying to anyone and everyone. His entire being is nothing more the a immoral, ego driven, greedy mess. But, that was in the private world where he could throw his weight around. Dozens of lawyers, daddy's money, verbal and physical threats. He was able to bulldoze his way into hot water and then back out fresh as a daisy. He worked the stock market by suggesting he was going to take over a company, the stock would rise on speculation, then he would dump whatever stock he had, then go do it all over. It did not take long for Wall Street types to catch on to the scheme.
But now that he is in Public Service, his money and lawyers mean little. His words and actions are seen (by sensible people) for what they are. Lies and scams. If it weren't for the spineless bastard Republicans in the Senate and the House, he would have been impeached 2 years ago. They have protected and enabled him because they are getting what the want from him. More than they would have gotten from almost any other Republican President. Heads should roll besides Trumps. The list is long, but Barr and McConnell should be at the top of the list. Both have performed their individual duties terribly and against the Constitution.
