Is it possible Pelosi chose the Ukraine angle to impeach because it doesn't implicate Republicans

in the Senate, and in doing so it avoids scandals that would bring them down with Trump? In this way they could allow for his removal in a way that saves themselves. The whistle blown seems to implicate Trump and a very small circle around him. She could be sending a signal that they'd be safe if impeachment stayed narrow in its scope, limiting it to Trump's involvement with Ukraine.

probably including some members of Congress, e.g., Moscow Mitch. The purpose of limiting the scope was to keep it simple for the low-information voters.

That’s as clear and concise as you can get as a reason to impeach

No way could they settle for losing both Pence and Trump.

But I'm no chess player, not even two-dimensional much less this game.

That being said, since this isn't an All GOP kind of scandal (just his inner circle) this is the perfect way for the GOP to dump trump letting him drown in the gutter by himself. Just a happy thought I like to think about!

Also, the Ukraine situation has a deeper, more immediate, national security threat "ring" to it than the situation reported in the Mueller report.

The Ukraine situation is something AG Barr couldn't get out in front of, like he did with the Mueller report. Barr came out with a lot of B.S. in advance of the Mueller report, thereby watering down any effect the Mueller had on the public. By the time Mueller testified in Congress, most Americans did not think the situation reported in the Mueller report warranted impeachment.

...than cutting a deal with Russia to install their ally as our president??? Sorry, but don’t see it. And I suspect the reaction of most low-information voters will be “So what? Who gives a f*ck about something to do with Ukraine, of all places?”

They're pre-occupied with other things, like raising kids or going to school or working two jobs.

If you're going to get a majority of the people to support impeachment, you've got to present a case they can understand without reading a 443-page report, like the Mueller report. And, it's got to be an issue that the Republican mis-information machine can't get out in front of, like the Mueller report.
