In a head-spinning week, we have learned that Trump was on the phone July 25 with the newly elected president of Ukraine who was seeking the United States’ aid in defending his country against Russian aggression. According to a (damning) memo released (amazingly) Wednesday by the White House, Trump said, “I need a favor, though.” This, after personally holding up more than $391 million in aid to the beleaguered country for “review”.
The “favor”: to dig up political dirt on Joe Biden, Trump’s leading Democratic opponent in the 2020 presidential race, and to seek verification of a loony-toons theory that the Russians really weren’t behind the hacking of Democrats’ computers in 2016.
Shockingly, this came just one day after Special Counsel Robert Mueller testified before Congress about his report into Trump’s alleged obstruction of justice -- 10 separate counts! -- to block the investigation into Russia’s interference in our 2016 election. Clearly, Trump was anything but chastened by the troubling findings of Mueller’s investigation ...
