General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHow come it's not a bigger deal that Rudy G's text buddy, Kurt Volker, is a DC lobbyist in the BGR
group, who in 2017 accepted an unpaid volunteer gig as the Special Envoy to the Ukraine?
Where does his real loyalty lie? Probably with his paid gigs, I would think.
From his current BGR Group bio:

Ambassador Volker is currently the Executive Director of the McCain Institute for International Leadership, a part of Arizona State University. He is also a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations at the Johns Hopkins Universitys School of Advanced International Studies and is a member of the Atlantic Councils Strategic Advisory Group.
Additionally, he serves on the Board of Capital Guardian Funds Trust, the Hungarian Initiatives Foundation, the Atlantic Partnership (U.S.), and is a Trustee of IAU College in Aix-en-Provence, France.

I believe he was referred to as Ambassador Volker out of courtesy, because earlier in his career he had been an Ambassador.

(108,976 posts)since he once was an Ambassador, and that title is still used sometimes.
From the BGR group link above:
He served as Ambassador to NATO from 2008 to 2009, straddling the transition from the Bush to the Obama administrations.
