(25,226 posts)that the Repugs are scared of Trump and his mob tactics (paraphrasing here).
I keep asking what are they afraid of? Really what can Trump do to them? I know he says that he can tweet something bad about them and they would lose support from their voters and maybe lose their job. Essentially Trump could maybe primary them out of a job.
BUT
I've always said 'there's power in numbers'. If enough of them ban together and turn on Trump - he can't possibly deal with a large amount of Repugs turning on him. Particularly with his work ethic or lack thereof.
This is how they should deal with him - and I still think that as this impeachment inquiry develops and as the facts come out just how corrupt Trump is - that they will have no choice but to turn on Trump. We hear that behind the scenes that many of the Repugs in the Senate hate Trump. They bad-mouth him behind his back. We've heard that 28 t0 35 would vote against him if there was a secret ballot.
So why don't these people get together and come out against Trump in force. Again - there is power in numbers and there is no way that Trump can primary all of them at the same time.
I just don't get it - unless Trump has a secret army of goons and has made death threats on all of them.
The only thing I've also said is that Trump will not go down alone. He'll take the Party down with him. Either his spill the beans about all the skeletons in the closet of the Repug Party (i.e., all their secrets of vote suppression, stealing of votes and election interference, etc) or he'll lie and make things up about them.
The sooner they (the Repugs) get together and take Trump out the less chance he has to blame them or take them out. They need to act fast and soon.

(9,263 posts)GOP voting base the true trump supporter. The compromise greater than 50% of republican voters. The fear is clear, the fear is real. IF ANY GOP assistance happens in removing trump from office or EVEN HAVING A TRIAL
the risk of alienating the majority of republican voters is all but assured. What is the outcome?
the destruction of the GOP power across america. These voters would more than likely not go out and vote as their sign of disgust. That impact would lead to the greast change of political power in America that has ever happened. At every level, state, local and federal.
More than likely these same people would splinter off to a 3rd party, and permanently be out of power at federal level, may have some at state and local levels.
Why does GOP fear? Aint trump, its his supporters

(9,958 posts)Yes, some supporters may stay home, but Trumps base would not vote for a Democrat for any reason. Trump might try to primary some Republicans, but he cant primary them all and most of them have the advantage of incumbency. I think it really is Trump theyre afraid of because the Russians also hacked the RNC but never released anythingthough most likely all was released to Trump who may have kompromat on any number of Republicans.

(48,966 posts)There is constant talk on RW sites about RINOs and GOPelite and the "UniParty" (D & R parties cooperating).
If a Republicon dares to vote against tRump court nominees or against tRump himself, they will face Primaries. But the base are even more likely to sit at home on election day or not vote at all for that Republicon's office.

(9,263 posts)saying the anger in true trump supporters will make themleave the Gop behind in whatever form as reprisal. Human nature is predictable.
A splinter GOP voting base is all but assured IF GOP removes trump from office.

The KGB/FSB/poutine thugs can make some bad things happen to ex-friends.
Love to see those gop congress-rats that visited Moscow and have back-doored communications to poutine and dump worry about their own safety. Polonium is deadly and very slow-acting. Ugly stuff.

Now they can get rid of Mr. embarrassment and choose someone new.

(5,801 posts)throw up her hands and pretend that she NEVER would have looted the treasury, appointed a bunch of far right crackpot judges, trashed the environment, etc. but now that it's done, she'll say you just gotta live with it.
So, the establishment pukes let red don do the dirty work that they wanted but that is wildly unpopular outside the RWNJ base. Once much of it is a fait accompli, he is expendable and a duplicitous type like haley can enter the scene and portray herself as a moderate.
As Charlie Pierce has pointed out, any of the GOPee candidates who might have gotten into the presidency in 2016 would have done the exact same things policywise as red don.

(9,263 posts)fear of being primaried by others further to right is real, bottom line, the more batshit crazy a GOP candidate is, the easier a democratic one can defeat them in a general election even in hardcore red states.
The GOP establishment knows further shifting to the extreme right speeds complete disaster for them at federal election levels
