Michael Beschloss. But he's been really growing on me the past couple of years.

The only thing that somewhat counters my stress right now is the hope Trump is self-imploding (with a little help from Pelosi and Congress and his own WH staff).

From everyone he's fired to all the Intel agencies and the FBI to all the staff that he has mistreated and all the old guard, never Trump GOP who hate what he's done to their Party.

Actually, you have to wonder why this hasn't happened sooner.

I recall an episode of "The West Wing" where President Bartlet utilizes the expertise of a British diplomat to help negotiate a cease-fire between India and Pakistan. It was an interesting episode (as so many of that show's were), with a remarkable denouement.

Smart presidents, (they all seem to be Democrats), get informed by lots of different points of view. Stupid presidents are like Trump and they get their ideas from idiots, criminals and ideologues.

Tbh if he's outed and the ramifications are severe enough, the momentum might be stopped.

Protecting him is primary atm to encourage others to come forward with some level of safety

Congress should be able to build a strong case without hearing directly from the whistleblower. And given the history of what happens to exposed whistleblowers, it's vital that he/she remain anonymous.

I'm sure Democrats are working on figuring out who the witnesses are that the whistleblower referenced (perhaps through communication with the whistleblower's attorneys). And now that Schiff and Co. know about the improper use of that server, getting that server would likely make it completely unnecessary for them to meet with the whistleblower. I suspect that server contains information that would force Trump's resignation or a Senate conviction--if so, though, it'll be kept from Dems at all costs. And what will Volker tell Congress?

Stay tuned.

...if the material on there is as damning as implied (not just calls with Zelensky, but Putin and MBS), you can bet that Trump will keep it from being revealed as if his life depended on it. Or maybe it’s already been moved to a different secret server, and that one wiped?

As to the whistleblower, what worries me is that, even if they can keep the person’s identity secret, that someone in Trump’s gang will leak someone’s name – whether they did it or not – and hope that they suffer consequences that dissuade others from coming forward. A corpse sends a message, whether it’s of the “right person” or not.

…this is about the 376,438,472th time we here at DU have been convinced that “this is it!” only to have nothing happen. And that’s just in the past three years, and not counting the Bush years. Does “Fitzmas” ring a bell? Frankly, I’ll believe he “knows something” when that “something” leads the 6 o’clock news.

regurgitating some vile garbage. There are probably endless anecdotes of him crossing the line.

There is a part of me that would like to see them play with him like a cat plays with a dead mouse - right up to the 2020 election.

The GOP do not want to be seen as the ones who took him out so they can hang on to his base. But they won't want to go into an election riding his coattails. They'll leak some stuff to finish him off when it suits them. They may have in fact been behind this whistleblower to some extent - they voted to release his report or the phone call.

Just in the past hour or so, breaking news about Trump asking Australia to open an investigation to discredit the Mueller investigation, Pompeo listened in on Trump's call with Zelensky (contradicting the State Department's earlier claim), and now Barr has personally asked foreign officials to investigate our CIA/FBI activities in the lead-up to the 2016 election.
