1. If McConnell tried a secret impeachment vote, it wouldn't work

You know the tally would be leaked. It's too explosive.

Actually, I think a secret vote has some merit. Consider that it would allow Republican Senators who detest Trump, (I suspect there are many), to vote for his ouster without exposing themselves to being challenged in a primary by a Tea Party RWNJ. If that were to happen, I think the vote to convict would be in the 85-90 vote range.

But it isn't going to happen and that's just as well because I agree with you: Those who stand with Trump should fall with him.

2. The GOP has to do a lot more than that

To even come close to redeeming themselves, they must pass the following

* sensible gun laws, including bans on assault rifles and large bullet magazines
* comprehensive healthcare
* raise the minimum wage to $15
* raise taxes on the ultra-wealthy
* infrastructure bill that supports the green new deal
* reform campaign finance to ban dark money
* cut the military budget
* immigration reform

I won't hold my breath waiting for them.

3. This is tinfoil hat crazy but what if Trump's goal was

to destroy the Republican party? After all he was a Democrat and he doing a good job of it.
