Has anyone here ever actually witnessed or experienced violence from marijuana use?

I'm watching an old Dragnet episode in which a junior high schooler threw punches at his teacher after smoking a joint (Juvenile: The Little Pusher; Season 12, Episode 6) .

I'm not aware, I've never been aware that smoking pot made people act in such a way.

Alcohol yes. But not marijuana.

The first black and white Dragnet series from the fifties was a far better show, but I don’t know where you’d even see it today.

And no, pot basically has the opposite effect. It makes a person too placid, if anything. I’ve never heard of a guy going psycho because he smoked a joint.

I think that Dragnet episode was just another manifestation of reefer madness.

I read years ago about somebody asking lots of cops to name the last time they had to deal with violence from somebody who was high on pot but with no other drugs in them. None of the cops, surprisingly to many of them, could think of a single case. This was years ago when I read it, and I obviously have no link.

On the other hand, supposedly the feared ancient Parthian warriors got high on cannabis to go into battle. Also, supposedly the word "assassin" is derived from "hashish" because certain assassins in certain cultures used it to get up for doing their deeds. I'm skeptical, although I can sorta kinda imagine the possibility of deliberately using the altered state to get into a mental zone. I think it would take practice and social conditioning to achieve those results.

I've never seen any violence, but I have seen plenty of cases where people just dropped some disagreement or tension because, being high, they just weren't interested in conflict.

And I have never witnessed a single act of violence committed by a single person under the influence of marijuana in all that time. And that's probably thousands of people at this point.

Alcohol? That's a much different story.

at the time:

About 30 some years ago, I was awakened by the ringing of my land phone (I still have a working Trimline, Western Electric). Checked the alarm clock, who could be calling at 2:10AM? It was my friend Barbara, she sounded distraught and asked if I could drive her and Max to the vet's office.

Max was a pomeranian with a golden, orange highlights, fluffy coat. He had brown eyes that twinkled with mischief. A handsome dog and very intelligent. His favorite pass time was to climb into open dresser drawers and destroy the contents.

So she says in rapid fire not amused voice, my son left a bag of marijuana in an open drawer and Max ate the whole bag and contents. To keep from laughing I asked, 1/8th or quarter? She did not laugh with me. I said I'll be there in 15 mins.

Max did not require having his stomach pumped. The vet keep him overnight for observation and Max spent the next day back home eating and sleeping. Her son was grounded.

A toddler drowned in the bathtub because the parents were too busy getting high. That episode scared the crap out of me at the thought of a parent neglecting their kid to the point where they died. That did not depict violent, but it jarred me nonetheless.
