Former North Carolina GOP Chairman to plead guilty of lying to FBI

Robin Hayes, the former chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, is set to plead guilty to lying to the FBI in a federal bribery case.
Hayes, a congressman, faces up to six months behind bars and is scheduled to formally enter his guilty plea to a single count of lying to the FBI Wednesday, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorneys office told The Charlotte Observer.
Hayes was one of four men indicted in the spring on charges of conspiracy and bribery. Durham businessman Greg Lindberg, a major GOP donor, and two associates, John Gray and John Palermo, were also charged. All four pleaded not guilty at the time.
The men are accused of trying to bribe state Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey with $2 million in campaign contributions to convince him to dismiss the official responsible for regulating one of Lindbergs companies ...
