You hear a lot of people concern trolling about how futile it is to impeach Trump in the House, when the Republicans in the Senate will only acquit him anyway. It's FAR from futile! It will accomplish two things:
1. Watching hypocrites like Lindsey Graham squirm as they find reasons to vote 'no' to impeachment: Article III of the Clinton Impeachment was about Clinton obstructing justice through witness tampering. Asking people to lie about a tawdry affair with Monica Lawinsky. Trump's impeachment articles will include obstruction of justice through witness tampering, telling people to lie to the FBI about RUSSIAN SPIES.
I'm going to enjoy watching Lindsey Graham and a couple dozen other Republican hypocrites SQUIRM to find contorted reasons for voting TO IMPEACH Clinton, but NOT to impeach Trump. Graham and all the GOP shills on Fox News are working overtime, concern trolling over how futile it would be for the House to impeach when everyone knows the Senate will acquit, specifically because they don't want to go on record that they voted to impeach Clinton, but not to impeach Trump for far worse things.
And,
2. Laying all the dirt and corruption out for everyone to see during the Senate trial, and then have all the Republican Senators GO ON RECORD as voting that THOSE THINGS ARE OKAY: Witness tampering, obstruction of justice, corruption, border line treason in allowing Russians to interfere with American elections, using the Defense Department to enrich Trump's golf courses, using US defense policy to extort foreign countries into interfering in U.S. elections. If they want to acquit Trump, they'll have to GO ON RECORD as saying those things are okay. Cementing, ONCE AND FOR ALL, the idea that the Republican Party is full of hypocrites who have no honor, no morals, and no values, beyond clinging to power, and giving tax cuts to billionaires.
And, if Pelosi's timetable is accurate, those Republicans will have to go on record as supporting all those criminal behaviors JUST BEFORE the 2020 Election, and then go home to their districts and defend their vote. Good luck with that.

(11,092 posts)I was slow to come around on impeachment. I was concerned that acquittal by the Senate would be too great a gift to Trump.
With the clear evidence of Trump using our money to extort another country to provide illegal foreign assistance in the upcoming election, the only correct response is impeachment. If the Senate fails to convict, that's on them.

(7,220 posts)Republicans have shown what partisan-based impeachment looks like, and no one has wanted to be accused of (or suffer repercussions from) that ever since.
But this is not simply different. Trump's actions are textbook examples of what the impeachment option is there for. It's time for the good guys (and notably, girls) to show the country what responsible oversight and "country over party" looks like.
And FFS will someone in congress please step up and defend Joe Biden and his family? Hard to say whether Biden's poll numbers are slipping due in part to Trump's smear campaign working DESPITE getting caught red-handed doing it, and probably getting impeached for it!

(4,605 posts)History is watching us. Even if we are unsuccessful in achieving a conviction in the Senate. Today we castigate and rebuke the Germans who stood by, remained silent, or actively abetted while Fascism/Nazism was increasingly taking hold in Germany. If nothing else, I'd like future generations of Americans and History to look back and say, "There were people then who tried to fight this!"

(18,118 posts)I want historians 100 years from now to look back and know that trump was so corrupt that the House saw need to impeach. Without impeachment, he would end up as just another bad president. I want him tarnished for life.

They LOVE this shit.
There's zero shame here. They'll gleefully lie to #Cult45 and the cult will love them for it
