He could choose just not to hold impeachment proceedings. This is risky because of the upcoming election season. The impeachment will hang around tRump's neck like a two ton truck.
He could have the impeachment proceedings. Thing is, he will get to set the rules.
tRump could not be convicted, but with the weight of the evidence sane Americans likely won't buy it. Payment will come due at election time.
tRump could be convicted and removed from office. It's hard to say how republicans will see that. The hard right base will be pissed for sure.
I don't think Moscow Mitch has much of a winning strategy going forward. It can't be business as usual. Perhaps that's why he's been as quiet as he has been as of late.
Anyone else have ideas?

McConnell your seat hopefully will be in jeopardy.

(922 posts)And let's donnie go down. Another repug runs probably loses and tries to minimize the damage to others. Hopefully losses are small enough to retain the Senate, and come back stronger in the next election cycle.
But then again the republican party could suffer such damage to their brand that they spend several election cycles in the wilderness.
One can only hope.

The GOP had an enormous hand in this. Pin it on them.

(17,376 posts)Which would take at least four Republican senators joining with all Democrats to defeat it.
Even if McConnell intended to allow a trial to happen, it would only take a single senator to force a vote on dismissal prior to the trial, putting Republican senators on the spot and on the record.

(15,082 posts)Keep in mind that John Roberts will be overseeing the trial and he doesn't want to have Trump hanging around his neck for his legacy. I don't think Mitch can blow this off.
