Democrats and Impeachment

Last edited Sun Sep 29, 2019, 09:38 AM - Edit history (1)

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice.... won't get fooled again." GWB

Donald Trump and the Republicans are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. We hear reports there is "total panic" in the White House. And there hasn't even been an impeachment vote yet?

Nancy Pelosi has the patience of Job. She is in no hurry to rush into impeachment, in my opinion. But, she has put Trump and the Republicans on notice. We will impeach if necessary.

Also, there is no time limit to impeach. That is a wishful myth propagated by the Republicans. They should dispense with those thoughts immediately.

The whistleblower opened a door for the Democrats to investigate. They have a duty to investigate every charge of wrong-doing. There is a much more serious tone in the White House and in the Senate since Nancy started the formal impeachment inquiry. (Some say she has to have the full vote of Congress to begin an inquiry? I don't think that to be the case. She is the Speaker of the House.)

If the White House continues to stonewall and to defy subpoenas, the Congress will have no choice but to impeach. According to the White House, the Congress has no right to talk to anybody or to see anything? No oversight permitted.

Contempt for Congress cannot continue to be the norm.

What happens if the Democrats don't impeach?

I suppose the White House might be a little more guarded in their interactions with foreign countries, especially those where Trump has business ventures? There are a lot of secrets in countries such as Russia, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, and a few other lesser-knowns.

Also, if we go thru election day and Trump loses, there are no federal charges against him and there is no need for a pardon. It is very likely that he will face a very rocky legal path once he is out of office?

There are pluses for the Democrats if they don't impeach, but can our nation wait that long for a course correction? These are very unpredictable times.

What happens if they do impeach??

There will be some divisions within the Republican Party. Many of them do not really care for Mr Trump as a person. But they like the way he leads their ideology. It could be a much closer vote in the Senate than people presently realize?

But, for the second time, this "presidential twitter" has worked with foreign leaders to weaken our election system and our democracy. The Democrats have a very strong argument to make.

If the Republicans vote to not convict, they understand the gamble they take that something else won't come up between now and election day? That could wreck all their political races.

Most likely, the Democrats will investigate up until about Thanksgiving? Then they will make their decision. To impeach or not impeach?

let his loyalists gather in the bunker and contemplate their cyanide for as long as necessary.

keep investigating. add to the articles of impeachment. every time he threatens someone at a rally hold a hearing. every travel expense should be audited.

at some point the repub senators will get tired of carrying him. that will be the time to carry the articles of impeachment to the senate.

...that Democrats should keep investigating and keeping them on the defensive.

They now know that Nancy wasn't bluffing. She has the votes. They can and will impeach.

Also, I think the Republicans in the Senate are the ones with a time line. They would rather not go thru another election with Donald Trump, if at all possible.

I have been impressed with your down to earth posts. You are a voice of reason here. I feel the need to jump in and support this fight for our democracy. I feel the need to support Speaker Pelosi, Jerry Nadler, and Adam Schiff and the rest of our Congressional heroes.

Impeachment will be hard but it is necessary and warranted.

My first contribution here is to say one important thing that I truly believe, Trump does not welcome impeachment. There is no way that a Narcissist welcomes day after day people exposing all of his faults, failures, and treasonous activity.

Keep on posting kentuck and I will keep on supporting.

Thank you very much for your kind words.

I agree with you that these Democrats in Congress are heroes. They are trying to save our democracy.

All the other side has to offer seems to be a lot of hot air and excuses.
