New CBS Poll on Impeachment: 55% Approve of Impeachment

Ed O'Keefe @edokeefe

NEW THIS AM: A new @CBSNewsPoll: More than half of Americans say they approve of the fact that Congress has opened an impeachment inquiry into President Trump. But as the inquiry begins, there is no national consensus on how to assess the president's actions.

4. The fact that 13% of "disapprove" are dems is encouraging as well

If they are really Democrats and not Republicans trying to screw with the results, then this would point to folks who oppose on political grounds. That is, they are probably not opposed to Trump being impeached, they just think its bad political strategy for the Democrats. There was a large group of folks in that camp here at least until this week.

From here on out, support will continue to grow.

We could be in 60, even 70% support by Thanksgiving, when some are estimating a floor vote on articles of impeachment will be taken.

That could be a game changer in the Senate...

7. That is big, get that up to 60% and let The Republicans vote against it.

If it gets up to 60% the Republicans in the Senate will not want to take a vote. That's my opinion.

Most of the people that are still against impeachment use that as a reason why they aren't for it.
