Well, someone understands the media circus...

Tweet from journalist Sulome Anderson:

Trump: the moon is made of cheese

Giuliani: Biden paid someone to replace the moon with cheese

QAnon: there’s a pedophile ring on the cheese moon

Fox News: Democrats sent immigrants to the moon to eat all the cheese

NY Times: Is the moon made of cheese? Swing voters say yes

Then she adds, in a postscript tweet:

P.S. this will be a lot less popular than my original tweet but The NY Times still does great journalism even if they sometimes act like they should argue both sides of the moon being made of cheese

Btw, judging by her Twitter profile, she hasn't written anything for the NYT, though her credits include the Washington Post.

Fwiw, I agree with her that the Times still does great journalism, at least sometimes.

The problem is the bothsidesism they also do sometimes.

And the inability of many of their readers to tell the difference, without a lot of info from other sources.

A paper of record should not be a paper of occasionally getting it right.

Apparently "all the news that's fit to print" allows a lot of latitude.
It should include a second phrase, "and some shit that isn't, but we print it anyway".

They don't seem to fact check things, and I find that a lot of their articles seem to be opinion pieces and not journalism.

It's not just the NYT that seems to think it must go out of the way to act as though there's a debate when there isn't one. That's true of the mainstream media in general.

Look no further than what happened in 2016. As much as we (rightly) talk about Russia and Comey and voter suppression, the media absolutely failed us and deserves a lot of blame.
