Not as insidious as the whole military-political-corporate-lobbying complex, but still enormous.
So many of those supposedly consumer-friendly corporations couldn't exist without sucking at the teats of the gov't. Real businesses have to answer to bottom-line concerns and be transparent in their activities. Not so much the ones that have "special" arrangements.

Many of the same businesses have Federal AND state prison contracts.
I don't even want to start about about all the private contractors that big cities use to replace jobs that Police Depts once did. Like Meter Maids...
