maybe he's starting to realize he screwed himself.

if the "transcript" had been properly doctored, more like what barr did with the mueller report, then maybe the usual right-wing propaganda defense crap might have worked.

but it's hard to convince everyone to stand up and loudly insist the accused guy is completely innocent when the accused guy proudly waves the smoking gun.
