And the Cheese Stands Alone

Donald Trump is about to learn some very hard lessons.

He is about to learn that actions have consequences that you can’t simply throw money at in order to make them go away. He is about to learn that he has been the author of his own misfortune, and that every lie told, every threat uttered, every unhinged statement made, will now be used to bring about his inevitable downfall.

He is about to be made to understand that despite his delusions to the contrary, he is not above the law, and that his current position as a small-p pOTUS will not shield him from justice not only catching up with him, but being served.

But the most painful lesson he is about to be taught is that when political push comes to shove, those he has relied on for unconditional loyalty will sell him down the river if it means saving their own skins.

The Republicans who were so quick to abandon their party’s principles, as well as their own, in order to lie for him, cover-up his wrongdoing, even perjure themselves in furtherance of his agenda, will be just as quick to reverse themselves when personally and/or politically expedient to do so.

Trump is about to learn that his world is not full of martyrs willing to be nailed to his personal cross – it is full of Judases who, for thirty pieces of CYA silver, will be more than anxious to deny he was ever their saviour in the first place.

His closest allies in the White House will claim to be nothing more than coffee boys, too insignificant to have been aware of what was really going on.

His steadfast GOP devotees will suddenly raise their eyebrows, feign surprise, and swear they had absolutely no idea of the corruption that was going on right under their noses, and will vow to cooperate – while sputtering ”I had NO idea!” – with those who are finally ‘getting to the bottom’ of crimes they undoubtedly knew were taking place all along.

It’s said there are no atheists in foxholes – just as there are no true believers when their messiah starts losing the war, and it’s every man for himself.

Over the next few months (if not weeks), we’ll be witnessing a lot of shock and awe from Republican congress-critters and other powers-that-be in the GOP, as they pretend to be astonished that their Putin-loving, Kim Jung Un-adoring, MbS-worshipping “pResident” was selling out the country all along.

We won’t have to wait for them to deny him three times before the cock crows. They’ll deny him as many times as it takes to distance themselves from the man they were sure walked on water as he sinks like an ugly, slimy stone.

So who will be left standing in the middle with the processed-cheese-food-product that is Trump? Maybe Ivanka, perhaps Jared, maybe Don Jr. and Eric.

But when all is said and done, even that’s iffy at best.

Trump won’t go down with the ship, he will grab a life preserver from women and children to jump ship.

Pelosi should be preparing a life preserver painted “Resign and you and some family won’t go to jail. Pence, too.”

Trump’s a coward. He won’t take a principled stand, he’ll abandon the American people as our president as fast as he abandoned Tiffany.

Great points NanceGreggs,

It is refreshing to see the first wave of GOP leaders meandering away from dipsy don.
Wonder if they are the ones who truly care that they represent the true concerns of their constituency
or if they are the ones trying to cover up their wrongdoings by discretely sliding to the left.

Either way we see our nation coming closer to true representation - only if they stay true to their conscience.

He said that, when news spread of Hitler's death, the river through town became full of Nazi uniforms and gear. People rushed to clean out evidence of who they had been, and what they had become.

And I had to wonder: Were they repudiating what had been forced upon them?

Or were they trying to erase responsibility they shared for the monsters they had, themselves, become?

Many, I am sure, were repudiating what they had been pushed to become and had embraced in shame and self-loathing.

in ethical morality. A master class in what not to do and be. As a Buddhist, I see all of the Buddhist 10 non-virtues of body, speech, and mind. The virtues being their opposites.

Body: No killing, stealing, or sexual misconduct
Speech: No lying, harsh language, divisive language, iddle chatter
Mind: No envy, ill-will, or wrong views

I am amazed at Trump's depravity, and even more amazed that anyone would support such a depraved and degenerate person.

I can only hope that history will teach the Trump saga as a lesson about virtue, honor, integrity, and selfless service to one's country. Because there is a lesson about virtue in all of this.

of the gop all grinning like Cheshire cats, crates of beer in the background covered with sheets? They were celebrating their lord and master destroying yet another law. Paul Ryan and Moscow Mitch were center of the group. We should use that photo every time the gop is mentioned, it shows them as they truly are. Enemies of law and order. They all contributed, and are STILL contributing, to the downfall of this country.

The fact that there were essentially no repercussions for nixon (other than resignation) allowed his administration's criminals (think cheney, rumsfeld, wolfowitz) to resurface 25 years later in W's misadministration, wreaking a whole new chapter of havoc on the nation.

These criminals MUST be made an example: if you commit treasonous acts against this nation and its citizenry, you WILL be held accountable and you WILL go to prison. There must be no doubt. Otherwise, new generations of traitors will be emboldened to try it again and again.

are NOT going to sacrifice themselves upon the alter of trump. Once the inevitable is clear, they will run for the exits, shrieking they were mislead, but make no mistake, they will NOT go down for him. They've seen charlatans come and go, and they know what a bastard he is -- he would throw both of them under the bus, then run them over if he felt it would save his sorry ass. As soon as they desert the sinking ship, it will be a traffic jam of human cholesterol at the door as republicans trying to be the first to squeeze through, scream to get out.
