The man accused of killing Texas county's first Sikh deputy was wanted for parole violation, officials say
By Faith Karimi and Jason Hanna, CNN
(CNN)A man accused of shooting and killing a pioneering Texas sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop was wanted at the time, and that may help explain why the shooting happened, authorities say.
Robert Solis, 47, was arrested Friday, shortly after police say he killed Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal, an observant Sikh who years ago gained national attention when he got permission to wear a turban as part of his Harris County Sheriff's Office uniform.
Dhaliwal had just stopped Solis for a traffic violation and walking back to his patrol car Friday afternoon when he was shot twice, including at least once in the back of the head, authorities said.
Authorities haven't said what Solis allegedly did to have violated his parole. Solis has been out of prison on parole since 2014, 12 years after he was convicted in Harris County of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, court records show.

It is widely known that in prison, prejudice, divides along racial lines, where new prisoners must join racist gangs - in deadly wars with each other - or go it alone, which is a type of death-sentence.

(1,124 posts)For some unusual reason: I too busy; but I do not mean to offend or mock people who wear turbans for religious reasons. Do any replies appear to deliberately mock Turbans?

(25,586 posts)that the officer was of the Sikh faith, not a Muslim. Just straight up admit that you had no idea what Sikh meant and assumed headgear=Islam instead of making a bunch of half-assed excuses about being busy.

Muhammad Ali: Why did the boxing legend change his name from Cassius Clay?
'I am Muhammad Ali, a free name it means beloved of God, and I insist people use it when people speak to me'
In 1964, the boxing legend who told the world he was The Greatest changed his name to Mohammad Ali, dubbing his former alias, Cassius Clay, my slave name.
Named Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr after his father, the sporting champion, who died on Friday aged 74, denounced his birth name upon converting to Islam and affiliating with the Nation of Islam (NOI).

(24,541 posts)Solis had a huge rap sheet. He was on parole and had an outstanding warrant from 2017 for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Link to tweet
He was sentenced to 20 years in jail for those crimes, and he served 12 years before getting out on parole in 2014. In January 2017, a warrant was issued for parole violations of assault and possession of a prohibited weapon

Deputy Dhaliwal was on a regular neighborhood patrol in a very quiet area. Neighbors said he patrolled a stop sign where drivers often didn't come to a complete stop etc. Neighbors heard the routine traffic stop pullover.
Dhaliwal was shot as he went to his patrol car to check on Solis' background
