Anyone else get a lump when that anti-smoking PSA with Leonard Nimoy's widow comes on

https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/campaign/tips/stories/leonard.html
Leonard Nimoy started smoking cigarettes as a teenager because he thought they were “cool.”

Leonard died of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) even though he'd quit years earlier.

That PSA is just so poignant and not just because I adored and still miss Leonard Nimoy.

Now with the vaping crisis, I worry some who quit or were about to, may not... So tragic.

My brother died from lung cancer almost 10 years ago after smoking for close to 50 years. Such a waste.

It doesn't affect my empathy, however. Even if losses in my own life precluded empathy or sympathy (is that even a thing?), I wouldn't flaunt that lack of concern as though it's a point of pride. It isn't.

He died at age 83.....the ad does not give me a lump in my throat. If that implies lack of empathy, so be it.

his widow’s reactions when remembering him are emotionally evocative. You say that, because you don’t know him, you feel nothing. That is, by definition, lack of empathy - nothing implied about it. As the old saying goes regarding your lack of empathy, are you bragging or complaining?

People who don't smoke, drink or eat meat think they will live forever. And then they are shocked when they die at the age others do.

I have just noticed that people in that category die like the rest of us at the same general age as the rest of us and with the same type of health issues as the rest of us. So I assume they are shocked since they shove their life choices in everyone else's face at every opportunity.

Have a good day!
