But don't get your hopes up. It's a deep red district (R+11 and Trump won by 24%) that came within a razor-thin margin of flipping last year because the obviously-guilty Collins was still on the ballot. Resigning allows a less-tainted Republican to get on the ballot.

He came awfully close because we already knew that his opponent was a criminal. If he isn't on the ballot, that takes a bunch of wind out of McMurray's sails.

skeleton crew, and work towards a reelection was non-existent or at least not getting off of the ground.

Guessing he started reading the tea leaves.

Switching his plea - is interesting. Better terms, I am guessing. But the things done together (the resignation and making public of the changed plea deal) sounds like some kind of coming to terms with the consequences of his actions (or protecting his son, perhaps, from worse consequences?)

That said. Buh-bye Rep Collins! Don't let the door slam you on the way out! Oh - can you use a shepherd's hook to take Duncan Hunter Jr with you?
