I have no idea what Trump's health insurance EO does. Does Trump know the difference between Medicare, Medicaid, and Medicare Advantage? His EO says it will strengthen Medicare Advantage, MA is simply private health insurance that picks up what Medicare doesn't pay. MA is private insurance that sends seniors notices in the mail that look like it is coming from Medicare and lures seniors into signing up for something they don't want.
What's the real explanation of what Trump's EO does? The explanations that I have seen are just mumbo jumbo.

This provision would spike the cost of Medicare. Because premiums are linked to cost, premiums would skyrocket for seniors.
This provision is a fancy way of saying Medicare privatization. This is Paul Ryan's old plan. Learn more here: https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/healthcare/reports/2011/12/16/10822/the-inherent-flaws-in-medicare-premium-support/
Note this stuff can probably be done under existing statutory authorities, if they decide to proceed. Scary stuff.
If Democrats can't focus and weaponize this, god help us. We eviscerated Romney when he proposed Medicare privatization.

(21,385 posts)Medicare with Medicare Advantage, I don't understand why? He is using Medicare Advantage rates to set Medicare rates, why?
Medicare Advantage is just a supplemental insurance program, it shouldn't be compared with a full blown health care plan like Medicare, it is altogether different. Not everyone has Medicare Advantage, I don't have it, I have a different supplemental plan.
Sequestration has already cut back Medicare doctor reimbursements, do away with that if we want to really strengthen Medicare.
I don't see any logic in Trump's EO.
You are correct though, Democrats need to get on TV and explain what this EO does so dummies like me can understand.

(14,920 posts)is the optional supplement that people with traditional Medicare can purchase to cover the 20% that Medicare doesn't pay for. Medicare Advantage plans are entirely different, and if you sign up for one, you are no longer on regular Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans were designed to divert public health care dollars to the private insurance companies and to undermine the traditional Medicare system, courtesy of people who hate government and its capacity to do collective good. If you choose a Medicare Advantage plan instead traditional Medicare, your network of providers is likely to be restricted and in many cases severely so. Depends on whether the plan offers out-of-network benefits. The cheaper the premium, the greater the restrictions and hidden cists (e.g. co-pays, etc.). This is not the case with Medigap supplements. You can read more about the difference between Medicare and Medicare Advantage here:

(21,385 posts)Medicare Advantage plans are rip offs. I'm on Medicare and I can go to either of the 2 major hospitals in Pittsburgh. People on Highmark Medicare Advantage plans can't go to UPMC in network.
It sure looks to me like Trump has it backwards. My government plan is better than the private Highmark plan.
