Not just for the obvious that he will get to delay the process with court challenges, but because he can claim that all the evidence they have collected prior to that vote is unusable.

(46,755 posts)for the way she played the impeachment hearing. Rope a dope isn't good enough. It has to be something that shows that when it is finally unleashed, it comes down like a Cat 5 hurricane.

Impeachment is a political process and the House has the "sole authority" to impeach, per the Constitution. No evidence of criminal
acts is required, there are no statutes outlining the conditions of Impeachment.
No amount of demands on how the House conducts Impeachment or threats of lawsuits can change that.

(82,849 posts)It's worked before, when President Obama produced the "long form" birth certificate from the State of Hawai'i to prove he was an American citizen. When Elizabeth Warren produced her DNA analysis that proved she does indeed have Native American heritage. Will it work again, someone having to jump through a meaningless hoop to "prove" something that's irrelevant or already established?
In the end, it doesn't matter, as we have seen. If someone tells Trump to go suck an egg, their refusal to jump through his hoop is seized upon by Fox and the nitwit brigade. If someone does what Trump demands they do, Trump, Fox, and the nitwit brigade just keep renewing their meaningless, stupid charge as if there was some substance to it.
I think Pelosi should tell Trump to go suck an egg, but then expand on that answer and remind everyone that this is a ploy Trump has used before (cite Obama and Warren). Lay it out there to show that this isn't a "controversy," but Trump trying once again to dodge responsibility by making something out of nothing. The allegations against Joe Biden are the same thing.

But I am good with the rebuttal that the House Speaker has the right to make her own rules.

(51,025 posts)Just as any legislation a member of Congress wants to pass does not go directly to a vote there is no reason to expect an impeachment inquiry to require a vote before reviewing the facts and evidence.
Legislation has to go thru the appropriate Committee and hearings before it is even brought up for a vote.
No different really for an impeachment. It goes thru the Committee or Committees to review whether the facts and evidence are enough to draw up Articles of Impeachment. Once those Article of Impeachment are drawn up then there is a vote.
Am I wrong?

(12,164 posts)She already schooled Kevin McCarthy, letting him know a vote on proceeding with an impeachment inquiry is not required by the Constitution.
When the time comes, there will be a vote on whether to impeach. In the meantime, Republicans are grasping for anything they can construe as "Dems in disarray."

(4,992 posts)..... such a vote would accomplish for Trump. The only thing I could come up with was that if its taken before all the evidence is out, it would go down strictly along party lines. Then he would start squawking, See, its a total partisan witch hunt, and then they would all run with that. Its simply a maneuver to belittle the Democrats.
