The democrats should hold open/closed door hearings.

Yesterday, the ambassador gave an amazing opening statement. That statement should have been shown live on TV. You could show it over and over again on the news.

They should start with open hearings, then move to closed door hearings. Doesn't that make sense?

1. This is the inquiry phase, the equivalent of a grand jury.

The demand for open hearings is a right wing demand so that they can derail via a public spectacle. Public hearings will come but they are doing things right.

for the TV cameras. I'm glad they're not giving the GOPers an opportunity to insult the witnesses for the delectation of their mouth-breathing base back home.

3. You have to admit, It would have been nice to see that opening statement live.

You could show it over and over again in order to change public opinion. Just saying, that opening statement was powerful and no one is ever going to see it. Start with an open hearing, then move it to a closed door hearing. It makes perfect sense to me.

These big hits from all sources; prosecutors, courts, Committees, investigators, authors, etc. are relentlessly pounding trump with new, more damming information. trump just spews same old tired crap - and his #s trend down.

4. I think we let House leaders decide how to conduct

There are a number of variables at play. 1) testimony that has to be shielded (security or privilege). 2) testimony that should be shielded (to protect other proceedings or investigation). 3) informants that need anonymity and protection. 4) informants that request to testify privately (for a variety of personal or other concerns). And probably a lot of other considerations I haven't touched on. I'm sure the House is aware of the need to "get the story out" to the people. But my opinion is that we let them decide how to do it.

(And perhaps we can see some evidence of the media stepping up to the plate? That would be encouraging too.)

I see no reason why they cannot start with an open hearing then move to closed door. None!
