2. The party that is in the throws of its last gasp.

And they knew this years ago. Every major demographic hates them. The only way they can possibly win is by pitting one against the other, divide and conquer.

Our nation will one day overcome these dark days.

4. We hope. Last gasp. Strange how these slime monsters keep bubbling up.

It's not really the party (GOP or whatever) that is the problem.

It's the funders. For whatever reason they (rw rich people) seem to want to try to destroy democracy.

...they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

They have much more power than Democrats nationwide in spite of having a minority of support. On top of that, they've absolutely stacked the judiciary.

5. Important Salon article--How the Cons hold power

I figured a lot of this out after repeatedly voting for Rs in my early life. College friends debated me to the point I had to concede the Cons had nothing to offer and worse they are liars and crooks. Thank you John Dean!

The Republican Party has a problem. A big problem.
As the party of the wealthy and big business, how in the world can it convince the working class to vote for its candidates?
This is no small matter. It is not some little glitch. Rather, it is a fundamental core issue that lies at the heart of the Republican Party. It requires a grand strategy at the highest level.

9. A major factor that Cody Cain doesn't mention is fomenting and exploiting racism.

Except for his brief mention of Trump and immigration.

From the Southern Strategy of Nixon (fomenting and exploiting a white backlash to the Civil Rights Movement) to the dog whistling of every Republican since (e.g., Reagan kicking off his campaign by talking about states' rights less than 10 miles from where 3 civil rights workers were murdered in Mississippi, Bush's Willie Horton ad, etc.) and Trump replacing the dog whistle with a bullhorn, fomenting and exploiting racism (as well as sexism) has been vital to Republican electoral success. Were we to magically wake up in a world free of racism and sexism, the Republican Party would cease to be viable. Without Birtherism (instrumental to the birth of the Tea Party) and his anti-immigrant rhetoric, Trump never would have become the Republican nominee, much less POTUS.

8. Don't forget Ronald Reagan

Iran Contra wasn't exactly what I was taught to do in Sunday school. And most of the economic problems we have today are due to his neoliberal policies.
