Barack Obama robocall gives Gov. John Bel Edwards a last-minute get-out-the-vote boost

Gov. John Bel Edwards is getting a last-minute boost to his get-out-the-vote efforts from former President Barack Obama, who recorded a robo-call earlier this week where he praises Edwards’ expansion of Medicaid and flood recovery and urges people to vote for him.

The robo-call, paid for by the Democratic State Central Committee of Louisiana, is about a minute long and also features state party chair Karen Carter Peterson, who introduces Obama, according to a recording posted to social media by the campaign of Congressman Ralph Abraham, one of Edwards’ rivals in Saturday’s election....

“Hi, this is President Barack Obama. Today’s election day, and I’m reminding you to get out and vote for Governor John Bel Edwards,” Obama says on the call. “I know John Bel. He and I worked closely to expand Medicaid for working people. And we stood shoulder to shoulder to help Louisiana recover from devastating floods.“He knows how to get the job done for Louisiana, turning a $2 billion deficit into a surplus. Investing in education and health care and reforming the state’s criminal justice system. Now we’ve got to protect this progress. So I hope you’ll head to the polls right now and vote for John Bel Edwards, number four on your ballot.”

If not, the top two start fresh and battle it out one on one.

As of now both Republicans are adding up to 52.2%. The only reason they are far behind is because the Republicans split their vote in half. They can't do that next time, as there will only be two choices.

Neither will get all the other's vote, and that makes the runoff close whichever might make it.

Kind of discouraging ... Trump is very popular in LA.....Edwards is well thought of but he might be booted out regardless of having done a good job as Governor.. .GOP vote 52%... DEM vote 47% -- with 90 % of vote in …..

...but either way, with a damaged opponent and a solid record, including a thing D's hate but lots of the R's love in that he signed the anti-abortion bill which is meaningless anyway unless the SC acts. And he's done a lot of solid D good works other than that, so I voted for him myself. I tend to think he ends up in a runoff but then wins the runoff because both of his opponents have different ways of doing the circular foot-shoot.

It's just kind of like the desert, it's easier to see here because there isn't so much other stuff blocking the view.
