Trump says he's going to authorize sanctions on Turkey?

Not that I expect anything Trump does to make real sense, but riddle me this Batman.....You know he told Erdogan it would be OK to invade nearby Syria when he talked to him last week. Now that there's blowback, he's going to issue sanctions? It takes some serious cognitive dissonance to have this turn of events appear to have any logic. I like to believe that everything happens for a reason, but I'll be damned if I can make heads or tails of the latest in lunacy. He created a problem, now he's going to exacerbate it and he's going to pitch it to his sycophants as some kind of brilliant strategy. This is some messed up shit, even for Trump.

Trump says he will soon authorize order enabling sanctions on Turkey over its incursion into Syria

President Trump announced Monday that he would “soon” issue an executive order that would authorize sanctions against the highest levels of the Turkish government, as the situation on the ground in northern Syria continued to deteriorate Monday following the recent withdrawal of U.S. forces in the region.

Trump did not specify when the sanctions would be leveled against Turkey, but said in a statement that the executive order would empower the U.S. government to impose additional penalties against “those who may be involved in serious human rights abuses, obstructing a cease-fire, preventing displaced persons from returning home, forcibly repatriating refugees or threatening the peace, security or stability in Syria.”

Trump also said tariffs on steel imports from Turkey will be raised 50 percent, and that the U.S. has halted negotiations over a $100 billion trade deal with the country.

“The United States will aggressively use economic sanctions to target those who enable, facilitate and finance these heinous acts in Syria,” Trump said in a statement released on his Twitter feed Monday afternoon. “I am fully prepared to swiftly destroy Turkey’s economy if Turkish leaders continue down this dangerous and destructive path.”

Trump will issue the sanctions and say "see" I wasn't just getting on there good side. Meanwhile, Putin gains more power while everyone is looking at Turkey.

even the dullards among us have to have a "now hold on thar Bobba Looey" moment. He gave them the green light to do this and now he's going to sanction them for doing it? Yeah, that makes sense.

"I'll do the thinning around here!" was the other. Then he'd proceed to do the stupidest thing possible. That's an apt depiction of Trump's decision making process.
