Obamas' first Netflix project nominated for Critics' Choice Documentary Awards

“American Factory,” the first Netflix film produced by former President Obama and Michelle Obama, is among the films nominated for the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film received nominations in four categories for the fourth annual awards show on Monday, including best documentary, best director, best political documentary and best editing.

It generated productive discussion and people kept thinking about it afterwards. What influence did the Obamas have on the film beside producing? (what does a producer do, exactly?)
