President Obama won't be debating an empty chair. He'll be debating an empty suit. If I had any graphics skills, I'd come up with a cartoon picturing that.
I expect to see the Romney smirk in full view, followed by stumbling nonsense.

(86,005 posts). . . with the expectation's game. If Romney is expected to fumble and mumble and he ends up completing sentences, some will try and give him a boost for that.
I think this convention really sets the tone and theme we want and has the potential to lock this thing up.
What I'm looking for from the campaign is a way to actually intensify the public debate in the days and weeks following the convention. Obviously, the debates will play a big part in that, but maybe the campaign will hold some independent town hall-type events to highlight that interaction between the president's ideas and initiatives and the public's response and inquiry.

(12,287 posts)that Rmoney is very good and that Obama wasn't so hot. Well, I seem to remember it differently. I thought Obama wiped the floor with the others in the debates.

(30,439 posts)I'm surprised people don't mention Romney's temper more often. You can see it in media interviews. It's there. I remember when Brett Bair of Faux News interviewed him during the primaries and Romney looked like he had steam coming out of his ears.
Obama is the opposite. He comes across as very calm. I can see it now...Obama compliments Romney on his Mass heatlhcare law and Romney loses it.

(18,402 posts)The bar will be set so low for Romney, and the pundit chatter will be so inane, I will only be glad to see them on C-Span. If Romney appears merely "human" he will get applause and high scores from the pundit class.
I'm remembering back to the Gore/Bush debates, where GWB showed complete ignorance on many topics and still walked away with kudos.
I thought Gore kicked Bush's ass in those debates. Evidently, some 2 million more Americans (popular vote) thought so too.

(45,851 posts)The M$M was forced to call out the Republican's blatant lies and they hated, hated, hated it. They will be parsing every syllable from the Democrats and even the slightest deviation from the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth from the Democrats will be jumped on like the world's largest trampoline..
Now that they have had to abandon their "Opinions differ on the shape of the Earth" shtick they have been so comfortable with for many years the M$M will be out for Democratic blood..

Mr. Romney: What is your favorite color and why?

(24,096 posts)I'm sure my friends and family think i'm a bit off because I am so into American politics. The debates to me is like waiting for the new season of Game of Thrones to them (and me). It's so nerdyish especially because I am not an American citizen (citizen, yum, I like the sound of that word as opposed to 'consumer' but that's another whole story.)
