Rob Zerban: Ryan born with a silver spoon

Well, you know, they say all politics are local. And Im intimately concerned with the people and what they want is jobs. But since Paul Ryan has been in office, and because of the trade policies that he supported, we watched a GM plant close in Janesville, and here in Kenosha too. Weve had a mass exodus of jobs since hes been our congressman. And then he turned around and lay the blame at the foot of Barack Obama, when this actually took place under President Bush. He demonized the auto bailout, and Mitt Romney said we should let Detroit go bankrupt, and that would have cost millions of jobs.
But yes, my personal story is one that people can relate to a lot more than Paul Ryans personal story. You know he came from privilege, I came from poverty. He graduated and has run off to Washington, D.C., and has lived off our tax dollars ever since. I graduated from college, appreciated that opportunity, started businesses that employ people in my community and gave back. Not everybody has been fortunate enough to be born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
Well, I think itll certainly help raise the profile of the radical Ryan-Romney plan that kills Medicare. This is going to be brought front and center. Its going to be highlighted in a way that everyone is going to understand the horrible provisions. So people are going to see this and, I think, not only is it going to cost Mitt Romney the presidency, its going to cost Paul Ryan his seat.

(33,497 posts)redristricting recently made it more republican, but he certainly won't be spending a lot of time campaigning there unless the polls suddenly break big in Obama's favor and Ryan decides he better make sure he wins at least one election.

(53,475 posts)He's serious, he's progressive and he's running a damn good campaign. He deserves our support. Please throw him a couple bucks if you can afford it.

(42,290 posts)I thought if a candidate declared for the POTUS or VP slot, they had to give up their local candidacy.
Isn't this kind of a conflict of interest?

(5,912 posts)In Wisconsin, they have a "favorite Son" law that permits a candidate's name to be on the ballot twice - but only if that candidate is running for President or Vice President.

(25 posts)His chances of becoming the next vice President has after this weeks disasters diminished to a high degree. His chances to be elected again to the house of representatives have not. After changing the electorate in some ways the 1st district of Wisconsin is more GOP than before. Also Democratic opposition is of the more token kind than a serious challenge. Looking at waco-representatives Michelle Bachmann stands out as the empress of those. She is challenged by a job-creator born in Minnesota that made would be called a self-made person living the american dream. He is pitted against a person who is deprived of certain homo sapient capabilities as logical thinking, reason, thinking before speaking and other often imperative attributes involved in human survival in Michelle Bachmann. Jim Graves is a very strong candidate against a persona as Michelle Bachman. Still he is trailing in polls as it is a very conservative district. I have no doubt he has a chance but that would be all, a chance. A very strong candidate in a very strong conservative area do have a chance to win. To relate back to Paul Ryan, his policy has never been to go after members of congress, senate or the President in such a way that he calls them un american. He has focused on fiscal issues which for experts are loaded and much more important than a somewhat not fully rational lady running around calling the President a muslim, the congress anti-american. And USA under siege by infiltration from muslims. A person doing that might even loose the conservative base of the base of the base. So might loose. A person meeting token resistance and focusing on fiscal issues will likely not loose an election. In conclusion Paul Ryan might have made an unfortunate step in accepting becoming VP in what looks more and more as a farsecampagin, but I highly doubt that should he loose the VP position he would loose his seat in the house. Even taking a campaign to his district would in some ways be a waste, the day democrats hold a majority in the house is the day to chase the Ayn Rand hugger. Now the cost of winning that one seat might cost as much as gaining 10 seats toward a majority. Let Paul Ryan do his fantasy Budgets and play WoW as a representative and lets use the money to oust him in 2016 when there is a democratic majority.
