The Trump administration's decision to host next year's G7 summit at the Trump National Doral Golf Club was a "real unforced error," Fox News contributor Andrew McCarthy said Friday ...
"So, to give them this kind of grist to continue the investigations they're doing and to push courts for things like, you know, they're demanding the president's business records and tax records and all that stuff, it just seems to me he's giving them a gift," McCarthy said.
"It's asking to be investigated under circumstances where he's being investigated left, right and center," McCarthy added ...

One of the most overlooked parts of White House chief-of-staff Mick Mulvaney's career self-immolation on Thursday was this tidbit that he dropped in while discussing why Trump's Doral property in Florida was the only possible place for the G7 Summit to be held next year. (The indefatigable David Fahrenthold of the Washington Post thus far has searched in vain for any other locations that were considered) ...
Climate change will not be on the agenda, Mick Mulvaney told reporters, without elaborating ...
It's as typically idiotic for this administration* to decide unilaterally that the climate crisis will not be on the agenda as it is typically corrupt for this administration* to incarcerate the leaders of the western world at one of the president*'s lesser properties. How do they plan to keep the climate crisis off the agenda? By threatening to throw the offending representatives out of Doral? Delegates might show up in Greta Thunberg masks if that were the threatened penalty.
Of course, the real joker in this deck is that, unless something is done about the climate crisis, Doral is going to be a home for the surviving mutant fish by the middle of the century ...

... Miami is in a race against time to avoid becoming the next Atlantis. The seas here are rising faster than most other parts of the world due to the ocean currents and Miami's geographic coordinates. South Florida is built mostly on porous limestone, which allows water to seep through the city's foundation like Swiss cheese. The heating of the ocean and melting of the ice caps is an imminent threat to South Florida, and that's aside from the fact that Atlantic hurricanes will grow larger, intensify faster, and dump more rain on the Sunshine State.
Trump's Doral resort is already located in a vulnerable low-lying area susceptible to flooding, and it will eventually be underwater when the sea rises six feet, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The most recent report from the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that, without systemic change, oceans will rise faster than humans can adapt ...

Washington, D.C.- Today, House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) released the following statement ...
The Administrations announcement that President Trumps Doral Miami resort will be the site of the next G7 summit is among the most brazen examples yet of the Presidents corruption. He is exploiting his office and making official U.S. government decisions for his personal financial gain. The Emoluments Clauses of the Constitution exist to prevent exactly this kind of corruption. The Committee will continue investigating, litigating and legislating regarding these mattersincluding pressing for answers to our prior requests about the G7 selection processbut we will not allow this latest abuse of power to distract from Congress efforts to get to the bottom of the Presidents interference in the 2020 election ...

A majority (54%) of Americans believe it's a problem for the U.S. to host next year's G7 Summit at the President's resort, according to a survey conducted this morning by Pollfish for Research Intelligencer.
Nearly a quarter (24.5%) said they had no problem, while 21.5% said they are not sure.
Nearly a third said it was a problem for ethical reasons, while 9.5% said it was a problem of "appearances." Nearly 10% said they believed it was illegal ...

our quaint notions of ethical behavior, social norms, and decency have been sacrificed along with our national credibility on the altar of one man's narcissistic delusions
I really feel for the career people, all their hard work destroyed and their ideals trashed in a few short years. we're gonna have to start over and rebuild a whole century of diplomacy and infrastructure that Trump has ruined. i honestly don't see how it can happen.

(35,704 posts)as long as he is in that office, he will continue to shock anyone with a sense of decency.
When he tried to match up the English parents with the state dept. employee who ran over their son and turn the meeting into a reality TV stunt, that was when I realized that no matter what, he will always go lower.
His casual, flippant, off the cuff capitulation to Turkey, costing our allies their homes and in many cases, their lives, and then trying to pass it off as a wise move because sometimes they just have to fight it out.
I am getting to the point where I think I can't tolerate it another second.

(18,637 posts)If Trump isn't removed from office, and all indications point to him staying, he will have more than a year, at minimum, to make money off his position.
Republicans voting for him to remain as president are giving him carte blanche to do anything he wants.
There will be no chance to impeach him a second time so he could act with no fear of consequences.
If he is voted out a year from November he will still have almost 3 months in office before he steps down and that is plenty of time to make one of the world's largest fortunes by selling off America's top secrets to Russian oligarchs.
No, the bottom is much, much, much lower than it is now.

(26,219 posts)From my view, its been 3 years of corruption - and the more things aren't addressed, the more things will escalate.
But thank you, Mr Shaub. Its good to remember what things might have looked like when our Constitution was still in effect.
Anyone else notice that the Senate confirmed a handful of new Trump-appointed Heritage Foundation-approved judges yesterday, or am I saying the quiet parts out loud.
