and commandeered Ms. Greenspan's (Mitchell's) show! (MSNBC)
More Matthews now! He's definitely channeling HBO's "Newsroom".
He called the Repukes liers. Andrea Greenspan tried to pooh-pooh him.
He replied: "You can't say it, but I will!"

(32,727 posts)Matthews and the other anchors wanted to ask a high profile right winger a few questions (I can't remember which one), but I do remember that Andrea kept inserting the disclaimer that the question was from Chris, not her.

(37,648 posts)It's not good journalism to call candidates names.
But you can do what some media are doing, which is to say that fact checkers show that such and such isn't true, or isn't 100% true, etc.
I suspect she's an independent or moderate Republican. I also suspect she's friends with most of the politicians so doesn't want to get them mad at her.

(12,606 posts)whether they are in print, TV web or any media should have to take a oath, like doctors do in the medical field, to do no harm. Simply letting anybody lie or misrepresent themselves to the masses is detrimental to the heal of society as a whole.
If they aren't in it to find out the truth then they should be put to work sweeping floors.

Perhaps he has had enough of the lies. You know, during the Bush years, he at first called the neo-cons on their lies...but was threatened with a show boycott if he did not allow them to lie with impunity. He still to this day reminds the republicans to tell their cohorts that he was fair and allowed them to speak without confrontation.

(25,264 posts)Lately he's been very outspoken - much to his credit. But I'm worried that he is looking to get canned from MSNBC. I know in the past there has been talk about him running for public office. Does anyone think that he is really pushing the envelope to make that happen?

(10,252 posts)Tweety just published a book on JFK, and he once worked for Tip O'Neal. At this stage of his career, he can do what he wants. I'm sure that he's more than wealthy enough to be a beach bum for the rest of his life if he wanted. He seems to really be enjoying himself bashing the racists and the over-the-top liars. For some reason, he seems to have gotten a burr under his sadle about Romney Saville Row Empty-Suit, and the Tparty koo-koo-racist-wingnuts. Maybe he's been inspired by Newsroom.

(7,768 posts)I thought that Chris was really enjoying this. He was also sincere and passionate.
He had a big grin on his face at the end and his signature, "HA"!
Actually it appeared to me that Andrea was trying (unsuccessfully) to stifle her grin.
He said to her, "You're laughing because you KNOW it's true."
She knows him well enough to anticipate what she will get with him on her set.
I loved it and the crowd gathered really loved it too.
Hope this new, outspoken version of Chris doesn't cost him his job...

(57,936 posts)That's so true.
I was talking to voters this weekend, and even if you discount this a bit because it's California and everybody either is a member of a "minority" or part of a family with "minority" members and most people come from somewhere else in the world, Romney is not well liked. In fact, some big Obama fans (young adults) asked me who "the other guy" was who was running.
I don't see how it is possible that Romney is polling as high as he supposedly is, but then that's maybe because of where I live. Nobody likes him. He looks like the boss you don't even know well enough to really hate.
Whereas Obama looks and acts like somebody from the 'hood but just smarter.

(1,734 posts)on cable TV. Chris Matthews is the epitome of Beltway centrist crap. When the cocktail party circuit loved Bush, so did he. When they threw Bush under the bus, so did Matthews. Now the Beltway cocktail party crowd disdains Republicans, so Matthews follows suit.
Wait for the winds of centrism to change, and he'll be a Republican again.

This guy isn't an idiot?
"We're proud of our president. Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who's physical, who's not a complicated guy like [former President Bill] Clinton or even like [former Democratic presidential candidates Michael] Dukakis or [Walter] Mondale, all those guys, [George] McGovern. They want a guy who's president. Women like a guy who's president. Check it out. The women like this war. I think we like having a hero as our president. It's simple. We're not like the Brits. We don't want an indoor prime minister type, or the Danes or the Dutch or the Italians, or a [Russian Federation President Vladimir] Putin. Can you imagine Putin getting elected here? We want a guy as president."
