A mere announcement by the Ukrainians of an investigation, even if such never got off the ground (and Trump might have known that it never would), would give Trump grounds to scream at rallies that the Ukrainians knew Joe and Hunter were guilty of whatever slanderous allegations Trump was spewing about the Bidens.

Trump made the claim about the detectives in April 2011, during an interview with NBC’s “Today” show.

“I have people that actually have been studying it and they cannot believe what they’re finding,” Trump told host Meredith Vieira.

“You have people now down there searching, I mean in Hawaii?” she asked.

“Absolutely,” he replied. “And they cannot believe what they’re finding.”

When ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos asked him about the investigators later that month, Trump refused to say what they had found.

“It’s none of your business right now,” he said. “We are going to see what happens.”

CNN’s Anderson Cooper also confronted him about the investigation that month.

“Can you name even one person who your investigators have talked to?” Cooper asked.

“I don’t want to do that right now,” Trump said. “It’s not appropriate right now.”

Tana Goertz, Trump’s Iowa campaign chair and a former “Apprentice” contestant, said last year that the candidate would reveal his findings “when the time is right.”

He’s never told you about it? You’ve never asked him about it? It was unbelievable and you weren’t curious about it?” asked MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell.

“Never was curious once, because he’s not a liar. If they found something, it will come out. The time isn’t right, and guess what? Mr. Trump does what he wants and he’s not going to do it on our time,” she replied.

The time apparently still isn’t right. More than five years after he first made the claim, Trump hasn’t provided any proof that his probe actually happened.

I suppose firstly he would have liked if Hunter actually was guilty of some form of corruption. That this investigation had legs.

But mostly, to have Ukraine announce and begin an investigation. And the reason would be some kind of corruption, using his dad's name to gain advantage in business etc. And more importantly, to drag it out for a full year until the election, with fake news tidbits dropping every couple of months which the MSM would portray as "new developments" in the "Biden family scandal!", making sure to save a whopper for two weeks before November, assuming Joe was our candidate.

"No quid pro quo!" has replaced his previous battle cry, "No collusion!"

He probably had never even heard the term "quid pro quo" until the whistleblower brought it up. And he had to have his staff explain to him (with simple diagrams) what it meant.

When you hear the media say the word, "investigate" without telling the WHOLE TRUTH - they're helping Trump spread his lies.

They are doing Trump's work by repeating the code word "corruption".

They also are completely overlooking the whole "Crowdstrike" thing (the *first* thing Trump asked for) along with the implications with Roger Stone and Russian sanctions.

One last thing - where is the WHOLE transcript. Trump has declassified the summary, but we all know that the whole transcript shows Trump asking for Biden dirt seven times...
