Why many Republicans don't support impeaching him

Rosie Perper 3 hours ago

According to the 2019 American Values Survey conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), the views of Republicans who say Fox News is their primary source of news are particularly striking and may indicate how the news outlet's framing of political events has largely molded viewer opinions of President Donald Trump.

According to the poll, 55% of Republicans who say Fox News is their primary source of news say there is nothing Trump could do to lose their approval. This contrasts with only 29% Republicans who do not cite Fox News as their primary source of news who say the same.

Education also appears to shape Trump's favorability among Republicans. Forty-five percent of Republicans who do not have a college degree say there is virtually nothing Trump could do to lose their support, while 35% of college-educated Republicans concur on the issue.

Overall, 62% of Americans surveyed said Trump's personal conduct and behavior makes them less likely to support him, compared to 30% of voters who say his conduct makes no difference to them. Eight percent say his conduct makes them more likely to support him ...

But if a person had access to sources of real news and still chose to believe in him and his racist and duplicitous ways, they would be past hope.

It is true that Fox News has created a Republican Party full of non critical thinkers who follow them blindly, but they are also creating a party that is increasingly disconnected from the rest of society. The older white party that is afraid of a diversified population.

Awhile back I discovered it was on in the waiting room at my dentist and I asked the dental assistant what was going on! I know both my dentist and her assistant and we often mention politics, they're both "one of us." She apologized and got rid of it, said that the older lady who came in before me had requested it. But the thing that floored me in the five minutes it was on, they were discussing Hillary's emails! Still, in 2019!

better get that up and running again on Day 2! I know Obama was trying to be bipartisan and didn't want to upset the GOP too much so he left this alone. However, in an interview shortly after he left office he said that Dems don't stand a chance as long as Fux Ruse is shown in every bar, etc. I'm tire of this shit.

I believe The Fairness Doctrine dealt with the public airwaves only. Outlets over cable TV like Fox News and of course the internet would not have been affected. Radio stations and over the air television stations were affected by it and had to follow its guidelines. However, talk radio in particular has played an enormous role in creating the right wing echo chamber and the dysfunctional and dangerous Republican Party. I agree one million percent that the a new Fairness Doctrine for the FCC should be a top priority for any Democratic administration.

...but we have to at least try for a new 21st Century Fairness Doctrine. It needs to be called something else though. Something like "New Media Deal." And there needs to be strict enforcement with licenses getting suspended or yanked for repeat offenders.

I occasionally watch Fox out of curiosity. They follow a theme that democrats have all these hypocritical motivations for doing anything. They don't ever have proof of much, but they insinuate and indoctrinate. So, what Fox does is essentially what middle school mean girls do to people they want to ostracize. They ( the cool kids, celebrities, models, etc. ) are letting you into their cool conversation and the price is you must give up your critical thinking and morals and just go along. You would hope that people who have lived 50 years would learn to see through this bullshit but they hunger for it. So, in the mind of the Fox viewer, impeaching Trump would be helping their "enemies" and turning their backs on their "Fox friends" who have kept them company and made them feel smart and popular all these years. Psychologically that would mean that everything they thought and talked about the last 4 years is truly bullshit. Their Fox friends were wrong and they were stupid. And they can't stand that.

That's the hallmark of the republicans' support. And greedy, we can't forget those whose greed is their political compass. Figure in their penchant for cheating, lying, and total lack of social conscience, and you have a political party that will do anything - ANYTHING - to gain and keep political power. That is most certainly detrimental to a successful democracy.
