Former U.S. Attorney: With "damning evidence, a reasonable defendant would likely take a plea"

Former U.S. Attorney David N. Kelley broke down the overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing that has come to light in the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump’s solicitation of election assistance from foreign governments.

“Lots of cases don’t go to trial in a criminal case because the evidence is overwhelming or sufficient enough to have a conviction. I doubt this is a case that would really go to trial,” Kelley explained. “When confronted with all the evidence, a reasonable defendant would likely take a plea.”

“This is pretty damning evidence,” Kelley added.

“Damning, slam-dunk evidence?” Melber asked.

“Yeah,” he replied.

And, since Trump has already out-Nixoned Nixon himself, there's every chance that he'd say "up yours" and plan to "fight" it, unless McConnell scared him enough.

Unless McConnell is rallying Senators to give Trump a pass. Then, none of this matters, except the indelible stain of impeachment passing the House on his record, which he'll spin until the day he dies as "the witch hunt." He can't spin a Senate conviction. He would absolutely spin a pass from the Senate as "NO COLLUSION, NO QUID PRO QUO."
