It doesn't matter if he has committed a crime or not. He is simply unfit.
The argument that we cannot overturn the will of the people is nonsense. He was not elected by the will of the people. He lost the popular vote by almost 3 million votes.
The people made a mistake. Just as they made a mistake with Richard M Nixon. It is up to the House and Senate to correct the mistake thru the impeachment process.
No doubt, Trump supporters will be very angry. They may not vote at all in the next election? Perhaps they should think about whether they should ever vote again? They have done our country no favors.
The division that has been created. The hatred that has been revived. The course must be corrected.
It's time to cash in our chips and stop gambling with the lives of the American people.

(43,049 posts)the will of the people. Even if "the people" back then were white male landowners-- "cream of the crop".
And, the Senate originally was elected by state legislators, not directly by the people.
Anyway, the impeachment process was set up as a humane process for correcting the mistakes of the electorate, should the President rule more like a king.
Europe had other ways of dealing with unpopular kings, but our founders thought revolutions, beheadings, poisonings and hangings were not proper ways.

(53,787 posts)The story of the Electoral College is also one of slaveryan institution central to the founding of American democracy. The bulk of the new nations citizenry resided in cities like Philadelphia and Boston in the North, leaving the South sparsely populated by farmers, plantation owners, other landholders, and, of course, enslaved laborers. This disparity in the population distribution became a core element of the legislative branch, and in turn, the Electoral College.

(43,049 posts)the article doesn't make much of a case for it being behind the EC. It does, however mention the much lower voting pool, and the idea of "overseers" in case the tiny voter pool screwed up.
The battle cry of "Hillary won by three million votes" has a nice ring to it, but it won't get rid of the EC.

Donald Trump is mentally and morally unfit to hold any office of public trust.
Egregiously so.
Any normal person who's paid attention knows this.
What does that say about the Republicans in Congress who fight tooth and nail to support and enable him?

(4,341 posts)I see the panic in their faces, even when they try to defend him.
Like a good mafioso, I believe the creature has compromised many of these republicans, he has dirt on many of them and they know he will use it against them at any time, no one is safe form the creature, he has no sense of loyalty to anyone besides himself and Ivanka.
That is the problem with republicans, they are also unfit to govern, and they are corrupt.
Martin Eden
(12,870 posts)I doubt his widespread support among Republicans in Congress is extortion based on incriminating dirt he has on so many of them.
Most are utterly lacking in ethics and/or afraid of being primaried if they dare to risk the wrath of Donald and his MAGAt base.
Some Rethugs no doubt are every bit as corrupt and deplorable as he is.

(4,341 posts)That he owes Putin and who knows who else a lot of money, that he is in it to first pay his debts and then to enrich himself. His has a one-track mind, and that is to make money from the position he stole, and being the kind of person he is who doesn't understand anything about consequences, that makes him very dangerous to the USA and the World.
The Taylor "Opening Statement" shows his disregard for human life by holding the security money from Ukraine knowing that Russia is getting ready to attack again, and there would be a huge loss of life, mostly in the Ukraine side, but that doesn't face him at all.
What a horrible human being that SOB is. If there is justice in the World that SOB will end the rest of his life in jail.

The ones who are racist ideologues know their groupthink lines down cold and would be able to Gish gallop all over the place, if asked. False analogies, conspiracy theories, fake news, lies, ignorant pseudo-science, ancient ignorant conspiracy theories, lack of logic and much stupidity. It's their way.

(3,321 posts)This is part of our legacy. We are not so smart, we are not so exceptional. We, America, elected this abhorrent scumbag. Whether you voted for him or not, we Americans elected him. This is shame that is very difficult to live down. We had better hope that we can attain some degree of forgiveness from the rest of the world.
