Just spoke to a GOP source close to McConnell, on the politics of impeachment: "This is shaping up to be a very dark moment for the Trump White House."

Assessing the broader vote when it comes to a Senate trial, the source said:

"It’s getting to be a harder choice for more people. Whether that’s enough for enough senators to take decisive action… every single move has been in the wrong direction for this guy (Trump)."

That's all we hear from the GOP. Little anonymous leaks like this happen every day of this era. And the Republicans still line up behind Trump and eat whatever comes out of his ass.

I have no confidence the Senate will convict Trump on whatever the House passes to them, no matter how damming and clear it may be.

The Republicans will, at the end of the day, come home to Trump, 100% of them. The only change will happen in the GE of 2020. Being on record of acquittal of Trump on his clear violations of the law will be a thing in every race in 2020. Will that lead to a Republican blood bath? Time will tell. I hope so, because this is the only positive outcome I can realistically envision.

The Republicans have to stick to Trump and his MAGA mob. They've lurched too far to the right to be acceptable to anybody but that ignorant racist crowd. And if a few of them do turn on Trump, his base and Trump will go after them hammer and tongs, with a greater intensity than we've yet seen from them. Republicans made this fascist monster, they have to live or die with it, that's where the party is at.
