"There are two sides to every argument", while true (sort of), is likely one of the most
misused bits of "wisdom" currently being relied upon by those for whom critical thinking is just "too involved".
I said "sort of" above because if there were not "two sides", by definition, there would be no "argument". But, that does not mean that the "sides" are equal or even comparable. It does not mean that the position of one "side" is not totally ridiculous and without merit. It does not mean that the "argument" put forward by one "side" isn't laughably ignorant or transparently corrupted by self-interest and bias.
The "two sides" "truism" is the foundation of Republican propaganda outlet Fox News' "fair and balanced" slogan. The problem, of course, is that giving "both sides" equal exposure is often NOT "fair". The Manson "family" had all sorts of warped and twisted justifications for their murderous rampage. To be "fair", need we "balance" their insanity with the horrific reality of their crimes? Of course not.
The point of all this is simple: there is no need to compare the motivations of those who oppose Trump to those who still support him. One side advocates honesty, decency, tolerance and respect for the law. The other fervently believes those qualities are irrelevant.
I've "reported". Is there really any "decision" to make?
