(129,687 posts)I know in the early '70s in school, we were using keystrokes on the typewriter in typing class to design "pictures", so they are just doing it now with the same keyboard characters but on a phone (or other electronic device with a display and keyboard). I think we used to call it "ASCII art" and the "smileys" that were created with keyboard characters, were eventually called "emoticons". The "emojis" of today are actually graphic pictures of smileys that were standardized for use on the web and mobile devices.
For that tweet, it looks like some figure peeping from behind a wall. Am guessing he is telling the GOP to stop hiding? I was in college when he was born so he's not my generation.

(129,687 posts)He is right on the cusp of the youngest of GenXers and oldest of the Millennials (born in 1980). This stuff is his generation.

(24,654 posts)toddle over to a PC, turn it on, and start using it a week ago Saturday. Blew my effing mind! I think she's probably on the closer end of two to three years old than one, but still. Dayum!

(129,687 posts)like 20 - 30 years ago. Their little fingers could manipulate the buttons better than any of us! I have grand nieces and nephews who are just transfixed and take to those better than trying to fool with the old "See 'N Say".

(15,811 posts)about having to hire a 5-year-old to program my devices. Not kidding any more, I readily admit to having been born before chips were implanted.
