(15,018 posts)There is no one-size-fits-all response to such a vote. It depends. It always depends.
I will leave the "toe the party line 100% of the time or GTFO" attitude to the authoritarians (i.e. the GOP).

(10,721 posts)Trump and Republicans will exploit that for all it's worth, which probably won't be much, fortunately.
Been saying/posting this all along.

(1,736 posts)If that's purity, what are Democrats for? Stakes don't get much higher than this vote, unless you want your party standard bearer slurred with opposition research extorted by the president.

(25,588 posts)The odds are they will be in swing districts and if democrats still have a majority vote, they will be allowed to vote against it.

(2,256 posts)In their area, how is that any different than the Republicans trying to protect Trump in order to please their base? This is well beyond politics. They took an oath when they were elected. Doing the right thing shouldnt be dependent on their political career.

(10,721 posts)...on their re-election odds. Are there really people in their district who would vote for them but won't if they support the resolution? Maybe there are, but maybe there are also people in their respective districts who are more likely to vote for them if they support the resolution. We're not even talking about impeachment--just an impeachment resolution.

(32,092 posts)As if it was as simple as that. It takes millions to primary an incumbent. If an incumbent is in so much trouble that they could lose a primary then someone is going to primary them no matter how they vote. If they are not in trouble then they will not have a primary no matter how they vote. #reality
