When the GOP near unanimously supported the use of torture without batting an eye.
We could see that there is no crime they will not support to keep power.
What's happening now with Trump should not surprise anyone.

(53,410 posts)Those of us who can extrapolate patterns into the future sure saw this! Many of us spoke out as loudly as we could to very little avail. I joined DU because of it.
If we, as a country dont rectify and make sure this doesnt happen again then we deserve the dictatorship we will get.

(8,835 posts)I was screaming my head off since the first year of the Reagan administration when Bush Sr. , Cheney, rumsfeld etc et al were just starting to show their true colors.
I screamed even more when Bush Sr. pardoned them all and brought them into his administration.
I was nearly hysterical when they all appeared in the W administration and with what they were doing.
Everyone told me to get off my soap box and settle down, it wasn't THAT bad.........
One of them even apologized to me the other day........
Alot of good that does at this point.........

(17,931 posts)It's got to be different this time. When this is over, the criminals have got to go to jail. Justice demands it. The rule of law demands it.

(342 posts)I am surprised at how vulnerable our system of government is when actually faced with a takeover by lawless republicans and dictator in the WH. I thought that our institutions would provide the guardrail, but it hasn't. It should be a lot easier to get rid of a president like Trump. In fact, the electoral college should have never voted him into office. We knew who he was back then.

(28,799 posts)and i can see the progression from nixon to reagan to bushes 1 and 2 to trump, but I am surprised.
some little inner Pollyanna in me thought there must be some republicans who believe in the rule of law. even now, we have to find some. if we can.
